the state park is a great place to go relax or play in the water, it's a short drive from the strip and has a great beach and place to snorkel, we have alot of fun there. i think it's 8 dollars per vehicle for an all day pass.

Snorkeling at St. Andrews
Can anyone tell me if you need to take the shuttle to Shell Island to snorkel at the Jetties? I keep reading wonderful reviews about this park and am confused if the Jetties or snorkeling areas are mainland or if you need to go to Shell Island.

First off, the Jetties are different than Shell Island. The Jetties are at the very East end of Thomas Drive in the State Park. Shell is well, an island. You can take a shuttle from the State Park to get there. Although, there isn't much to see by snorkeling there. Don't let the name of the island fool you. It's all a bunch of trees/marsh and nothing else (not even bathrooms). It's a very beautiful area of the beach. I'd recommend hanging out at the Jetties. You pay to get into the State Park and have access to 2 different areas of the beach, plus a 3rd area next to the camping grounds that has the shuttle to Shell Island. Thanks Cindy. You helped clear up the jetties issue. Been watching Hurricane Dennis, looks like PC was spared. I look forward to going down. Of course, we're not supposed to go until October...could be a long hurricane season.

There is so much to do on the main strip (Front Beach Road) There are souvenir shops every where you look....Alvin's Magic Mountain is one of the best. The out side of it looks like a mountain or cave. There are awesome clubs like Coyote Ugly and club La Vela. There is also a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum shaped as a sunken boat. The Beach is breath taking with white sugar looking sand all down the coast.....ahh...I can't wait to go back!
