Navy Lodge: After the Gulf Hurricanes

The Navy Lodge system is intended for military families who are being transferred from assignment to assignment. The rates are based on the military member's rank. These facilities are not available to civilians, only to Military/DoD Civilians with current ID cards and DoD decals on their vehicle who are allowed base access.

"Reservations are accepted for all eligible personnel on an as-received basis. Official guests and visitors of the command may stay at Navy Lodges. Reservations are to be made by and guaranteed by the sponsor. Family members, staying at Navy Lodges without the military member, are required to show their identification at check-in. Guests of military personnel may stay at Navy Lodges provided the military member is present at check-in. Once a reservation is made it will be firm and you cannot be bumped. Reservations and room assignments are made without regard to rank or rate, or time of reservations."

Last year, this room was $55/night. We were on the third floor and there was an elevator and also a luggage cart. Our room had no lamps on the bedside tables - the outlet next to the bed did not work. But the room was nice - it had a refrigerator and a microwave and a coffee pot, and TV, and a view of the Gulf through the live oak trees. I wanted to write up the last couple of days, but I couldn't see to do it. I'd have needed a flashlight. There were no utensils in the room, although they could be obtained from the front desk.

The desk clerk said that they gave us the rooms before they had been completely renovated after the hurricanes last summer.

Unique Quality: All the deficiencies had been remedied by 2008. There were bedside tables with lamps.

And this time our room even had a balcony. There was a playground out back for the children.

There was wi-fi in the room, although it was not free. It was $8.00/night.

Springhill Suites by Marriott: Springhill Suites on Pensacola Beach

Springhill Suites is a marriott brand that offers suites focused for the business traveller. This Springhill though is located right on the beach and is geared more towards the tourists. The Rooms are clean, the facilities are nice and the staff are extremely friendly.

The rooms are expensive though (Over $200 a night) so check for deals if you can.

Unique Quality: There are a couple of pools and one build just for kids that is only about a foot deep. One side of the kids pull is like a shoreline and you gradually enter the water. There is also a fountain at this pool for the kids to play in.

The other pools were crystal clear. There is direct access from the Hotel to the white sand beaches.

They have a pantry in the lobby where you can get a quick water or soft drink. They run only $1.00 each which I thought was a bargain compared with what other hotels charge. After a day in the sun, we ran through here a couple of times.

Best Western: The good life

Highly recommended. right on the beach. I would like to suggest the gulf front view with balcony

Springhill Suites: Luxury on the beach!

This is a new hotel located on Pensacola Beach. All rooms are suites, so if you have kids or just need extra space, this is a good hotel.

Unique Quality: The hotel is right on the beach, and also has 3 swimming pools!

I stayed in a rented condo...

I stayed in a rented condo there are many new places and a nice Hampton Inn. My condo was next to the Hampton Inn where this photo was taken.
