Ft. Pickens National Park

by MatthewMetcalfe

Ft. Pickens is a National Park on the western end of Pensacola Beach. It's a part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The Fort has guarded Pensacola and the Bay since the early 1800's.

Before modern amenities such as air conditioning and power Ft. Pickens was considered a harsh environment and tough duty. The Fort Served as a prison whose most famous inmate was Geronimo.

In addition to the main fort, there are several outlying batteries as well as a campground for overnight stays. There's also a small Fishing Pier as well.

It can get really hot in the summer so bring lots to drink to help keep cool.
