Nice Hotel But Not A Resort Setting

by TripAdvisor Member EastCoastGirl1

My husband and I stayed at the Sheraton Plantation for a week from Feb 25 to March 4. We weren't supposed to be there. We were going to Fla on a timeshare exchange, but the timeshare overbooked and we ended up at the Sheraton Suites. The hotel itself is very nice. I was looking forward to a resort with a balcony and nice pool with gardens. This didn't fit that description. As a matter of fact, the windows didn't even open. But for a brief stay, this hotel had a beautiful lobby and the rooms were very nicely decorated (and the beds were very comfortable). Like a previous poster said, the hotel is attached to a vacant mall. They had built a new mall up the street (Broward Mall) and closed this one. The staff couldn't have been nicer. We got a free buffet breakfast every morning, which was good. It's located close to the 595 highway and about 10 minutes to Fort Lauderdale beach. There are many restaurants in the immediate area and a mall a block away. Also, golf courses nearby.

Below average Sheraton

We arrived late in the day and had requested a quiet room, away from the elevators. The room, on an upper level, was very nice, though not totally clean, with misc. items on the carpet and a bag of someone's old, wet swimsuit in a drawer in a laundry bag. After we settled in, we noticed the constant dinging noise of the elevator down the hall. It was very late and we didn't want to change rooms, but this should not have happened in the first place. It was a real irritation. Also, when we ate in the hotel's restaurant, the waiter was very indifferent, the food was mediocre at best, and the portions were very small and very expensive--not typical Sheraton by any means! It appears, since this hotel is linked to the "dead" mall behind it, it will die too. Staff doesn't seem to care about clients at all. I would not stay here again or recommend it. Find a better place for your money.

Excellent Hotel for Certain Purposes

by TripAdvisor Member MrktMgr

We experienced this hotel in two completely different ways on a two night stay: One night before a cruise and one night after a cruise. But I'll get to the two experiences later.

Let's get the normal review stuff out of the way. You see that I have rated the hotel excellent. And it really is. Staff we encountered everywhere, especially at the front desk were excellent! Friendly, competent and on top of their game. Breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant, something I usually avoid because of the high prices, was super and a real bargain for a luxury-chain hotel.
The room. Ahhh, the room. Just perfect. Love the suite, the bathroom, the beds (Sheraton has, without a doubt, the best beds in the business) and let's not forget my fav. - that curved shower curtain rod!! The other thing I love is lots of light in the shower and they have that too. One of the best rooms I've had yet.

Now to our two experiences. We arrived after a long flight from Europe at around 7:30 at night. We decided to take a town car to the hotel from the airport (used tri-county - the ones with the desk outside of baggage claim). Cost $44 for the car and took about 20 minutes. Next morning we decided we would try and find a place for breakfast. Forget it - nothing within walking distance and yes, yes, the attached mall is closed. So we decided to eat in the hotel. After breakfast we checked out and headed to the cruise port. We were at the Hotel all of 14 hours by the time we checked out.
After our cruise we spent another night at the Sheraton. This time we rented a car and discovered that the location is actually quite good. Lot's of restaurants and shopping in the area.

This is a good short stay hotel if you have a car. It's about 20-30 minutes from the beaches, airport and port everglades and close to the highways (95, 595, and the Florida Turnpike). If we do a cruise again out of Fort Lauderdale, we'll probably stay here again before and after the cruise.

Great hotel at a great price!!

by TripAdvisor Member osteochick

I have stayed several times now at the Sheraton Suites, and I recommend it to everybody!! The prices are great-maybe a bit more than a Super 8, but what you are getting for the price is worth it. To start out, you can get a one bedroom suite, which is what I always get, which has a bedroom separate from the living room.

The staff here is super awesome - very accomodating. I am allergic to down so they always have the foam pillows ready for me on arrival. Once I lost something in my room and the housekeeping manager herself, plus one other, came and helped me find it. Everyone from the front desk staff to the room service waiters were super kind.

What I was most impressed with, however, was the cleanliness of the rooms, which is a big factor for me. Every time I've stayed, the rooms have been super clean, not a dust mite or stray strand of hair in site!!! The suites are so spacious and clean, it is amazing.

The hotel also has a "business center" with free internet as well as pool, both which I use extensively. You also have easy access ot 595 from here, and Broward Mall is nearby too.

A Sheraton for a budget price

by TripAdvisor Member EyeDocBrazil

It`s a very nice property seeming to be in the middle of nowhere; there is a ghost mall connected to the hotel.
It is very clean , well kept and showing spacious rooms.
We went specifically to Plantation, almost one hour North of Miami , to visit the Buterfly World, a fantastic and very unique place for kids between 2 and 82 yo.
Positively probably the best cost /bennefit hotel in the area.

Very Nice, But Pricey!

by TripAdvisor Member HuntingtownTraveler

The Sheraton Suites in Plantation, FL is certainly nice....the rooms were well kept, everything worked, the rooms, bathrooms, and all the areas inside the hotel were clean and shiny. The lobby and lounge area were nice and well kept. Hotel staff were very responsive and attempted to be helpful.

Our main beef was that the rooms seemed considerably overpriced. We had been told that our "special group rate" was $125 which would have been tolerable, but when we checked in, we were told that our rate was $175 per night. Perhaps the reason for the high prices is that many sports teams that come into town for events stay there -- while we were there, the Philadelphia Flyers rolled in to stay during their game.

Given the room rates, one would think that the hotel would have had concierge staff available. Because there were no concierge staff, we had to contact the front desk for EVERYTHING. For virtually everything we requested, the front desk staff basically had to Google the internet. After a while, we gave up asking the front desk for advice and simply went to the business center to Google ourselves - whether it was to set up tee times at local golf courses (highly recommend Jacaranda Golf Club which is literally 5 minutes away), get directions to Fort Lauderdale beach, get tips and directions for hot spots in Miami, or find local tennis courts.

The restaurant was considerably overpriced and the quality of the food there (particularly breakfast) was atrocious. Our recommendation? There are tons of restaurants along University Blvd and along Broward that are within minutes. Go there! Don't eat at the hotel.

The pool on the rooftop was very nice and the view from that location afforded the ability to see all the way to Fort Lauderdale.

The one weird thing that is probably covered in other reviews is that the hotel is attached to an empty mall called the "Fashion Mall". At one time, the mall was likely a high end location, but now it is falling down and is closed to the public.

Overall? Nice property, well-situated that is clean and safe, but overly priced. Stay away from the restaurant.
