Residence Inn Fort Lauderdale Pompano Beach: A suprisingly good choice!
Our whole decision to stay in Pompano Beach was due to this hotel. From the website's pictures, the place looked lovely. We were definitely looking for a studio type room so that we could cook in our rooms if we wanted. The fact that the hotel was on the beach was another plus.
The room was fantastic! Great view of the ocean, clean, spacious, and in surprisingly good shape. The only thing that seemed somewhat run-down were the washer and dryer included in the room. That's right, in the room!!! The rooms were also equipped with free WI-FI and wired internet, offered a large flat panel TV, though closet space was a bit limited.
Access to the beach (with turtle nesting sites) couldn't be better. The pool seemed a bit small, but my son and my niece loved it. The spa was lovely (wife and I both got massages). The hotel's restaurant was average, but the free breakfast every morning more than made up for it.
Service at the check-in desk and valet was okay, but in the rooms it left a little to be desired. The rooms were cleaned, but only if you weren't in the room. The moment you showed up, they walked out and never came back irrespective of whether the beds were made or not. I suspect this was more of a communication issue with the cleaning staff who were mostly Haitian, but when I contacted Guest services about it, nothing was done. It was the one negative about the hotel.
Actually, parking is scarce in this area and you're almost obligated to do the valet parking for $19 a day.
Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel and will definitely go back for future visits.
Unique Quality: This hotel offers great views, immediate access to the beach, a decent pool, a great spa, and excellent spacious studio rooms. Also, free breakfast and free internet. Part of the Marriott chain so you get your miles/points.
