"port saint joe"
port saint joe is located on st. joseph bay between panama city and apalachicola in northwest florida. historically the most important event in port saint joe was the signing of the florida constitution in 1838. in 1935 the chemical tycoon alfred dupont died and his fortune was adminstered by his brother in law edward ball. edward ball bought hundreds of thousands of acres in northwest florida and established the port st. joe paper company in 1936. for decades port saint joe was a company town that supported the port saint joe paper mill. toxins from the mill poluted st. joseph bay until it's closure in 1998. after the closure of the mill the st. joe paper company became a land development enterprise. since 1998 the saint joe paper company has developed thousands of acres in northwest florida. today the ecology of the area has recovered and now the town of port saint joe's economy depends on tourism. of interest to the tourist are the beautiful beaches of cape san blas, excellent salt and fresh water fishing and a redeveloped downtown. port saint joe is a very interesting place to visit in northwest florida.
