Historic Coast Guard Station on Peanut Island
Peanut Island is a park which can only be accessed by water. There are campgrounds, picnic spots, a brick footpath around the island, bathroom and shower facilities, swimming beaches, and a snorkeling area.
One way to get there is by kayak. There are kayak tours ($50/adult including all equipment) which include a tour of this historic former Coast Guard Station and a nuclear fallout shelter built to protect President Kennedy in case of war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Every Thurs and Sat at 9 am from the Riviera Beach Marina (subject to tide and weather.
We stayed at the Marina, but have not taken the tours.
