We just got back from a wonderful trip to St. Augustine. We booked two rooms at the Castillo Real. The hotel was beautiful. It was well maintained. The rooms were spacious. The spa was very nice as well. The whole hotel had a spa -like feel to it.We had breakfast in the hotel twice and it was wonderful. We have stayed in several hotels in the St.Augustine area and this was by far the best .We will be returning as our son attends Flagler College in St.Augustine.
#1 hotel on St. Augustine Beach

Had a great comfortable stay at the Castillo Real. I am particular so I spent a good deal of time researching the internet for beach area hotels. This hotel has a pleasant decor, super comfortable beds, nice pool area, and curtious staff. Although not ON the beach, it's only a few steps away. The historic district is a short drive. Best hotel on the beach.
Loved it!

Initially we checked into the Holiday Inn down the street, which should be stripped of it's title, it was a complete dive! We called aroung and were referred to Castillo Real, we got a refund at the flea hotel and went straight to a first class hotel, we were very happy! The hotel is clean, very close to the beach, nice pool and jacuzzi and we absolutely loved going to the steam room and sauna daily! This is also a non-smoking hotel, which was a break, no bad odors. Two downsides, poor lighting in rooms and pillows were flat and on the hard side, down or comparable would've been nice, but these two minor things did not distract from our lovely stay there, we'll be back!!!
Could be Better...

I was looking for an upscale hotel in Saint Augustine and thought the Castillo Real would fit the bill...
After reviewing this website, the hotel's direct and other web sources I contacted the hotel directly and reserved a King Jacuzzi room with ocean view for $179/night.
The hotel advertises a spa, so prior to arriving a called a few times to make reservations for my girlfriend, but nobody every answered at their spa or returned my messages. For an upscale hotel I find that unacceptable.
The hotel is in a nice location, just a few steps from the ocean, but definitely not oceanfront. It is a short drive from the historic area too.
The room was nice, however a bit smaller then I expected. There was no desk or table in the room, and only one chair. The rooms while decorated nicely with luxury amenities was somewhat dark and gloomy.
We did not use all the hotel facilities, but they did have a nice pool, a restaurant, business center, gym and sauna. Apparently a spa too, but nobody was there!
The hotel is fairly new, clean, and a bit artsy... but far from perfect...

We were a party of 4 families who were travelling back from Hilton Head South Carolina to Orlando to catch our flight home to Dublin, Ireland. As it was the last night of our holiday we wanted to stay somewhere really nice. When we made the booking earlier in the year we specifically asked how close the hotel was to the centre of St Augustine, 10 minutes we were told! we asked was that walking distance & we told "YES" but did we get a shock!! As we checked in the Receptionist positivly denied that any member of staff would give that incorrect information. But as we said there is no way we would have booked had we known. We wanted a location close enough so we could walk to the centre, take in the sights & atmosphere of St Augustine as we were only going to be there for 1 night.
After we had all settled into what I have to say are really gorgeous comfortable rooms our party assembled for a pre-Dinner drink! but there is no Bar!!!! We were told we could have a drink in the restraunt but we felt it was'nt appropiate. We then tryed to order some Taxis for our party of 13 only to discover that the Taxi Company could onlly send 1 Taxi at a time with a 30 - 40 minute wait in between.....Needless to say we took our cars!
Next morning up bright & breezy & looking forward to a nice breakfast but to our shock(again) we had to pay for it! We thought this was included in our $199 room rate as did a previous reviewer....& to make matters worse service was extremely slow although the food was quite good when it did arrive!.
So as you can see our experience was'nt a very positive one but it is a very nice hotel & maybe management should consider puttingl more information on their web site.
Nice, but noisy

We stayed here on a Sat & Sun. The hotel has a restaurant, but not run by the hotel. We had planned to eat a nice breakfast at the hotel, but found their in-room book had old info regarding breakfast and by the time we went down, they were done serving. There is no continental breakfast. Therefore, very expensive, not kid-friendly atmosphere or food. There was a large party on Sat. night at the restaurant. This is a 4 story hotel and the foyer is 3 stories high. Our room was near the foyer area on the 3rd floor and it was very noisy. The foyer echoes and the restaurant was open past 11:00. We had to put pillows and clothing around the door frame to lessen the noise from the hallway. You could see "daylight" all around the door after lights were out. When we made the reservation, we asked if it was kid-friendly, since we have a 8 & 10 year old. They said yes, but the only thing kid-friendly was the pool. The hotel is geared more toward couples since it has the elegant restaurant and spa upstairs. The ad said ocean view, but it was not much of a view since there are buildings between the hotel and the ocean. Maybe from the 4th floor you could see over these buidings. We had to look between and it was just a slight view. We also didn't realize they had rooms with balconies. We had paneled windows that steamed up at the end of the day, making it difficult to see out of. They failed to mention to us that they had balcony rooms. The rooms however were very clean, neat and impressive. If we go again, we'd stay at a more kid-friendly hotel with a better view.
Wonderful Hotel

I had booked a room in the smelly hotel down the street....and couldn't take it so last minute...I ended up in this hotel. When I got here all they had was a King Jaccuzi suite. You know when you work hard and FINALLY get away....it is nice to go someplace where it feels like a reward. This hotel was that for me. I will stay here again.
Awesome Hotel!!!

Stayed in the King Room with Hot tub. The hotel was the nicest on the street, and beautiful all around. It's walking distance from the beach, and we could see the water from our 3rd floor room. Everything was very clean, including the hot tub and bathroom. Very nice decor. Very friendly staff. Bathroom has a vanity mirror and chair which the GF loved. Hot tub is awesome, no shortage of extremely hot water, with view of the TV. TV had about 20 local and cable channels, with 2 hbo's. Bed was nice and soft, but the pillows were disappointing. They were a bit hard and felt like couch cushions. I would reccommend bringing your own. Plenty of towels in the room and 2 nice robes to wear. The room had a microwave and mini fridge. The restaurant looked very nice downstairs, but did not try it. We went to Cafe Annies across the street (look for their website) for Brunch on sunday and loved it. $10 for all you can eat custom pancakes and omelettes, and pecan crusted french toast with bacon sausages doughnuts etc. There is a nice pool outside with a fountain, and a jaccuzzi. We were told there is a steam room, gym, and sauna on the 4th floor. I believe there is also a spa service with in room massages. Definitely reccomend this hotel for anyone looking for a nice place to stay in St. Augustine. Historical district is about 10 mins drive over the main bridge. Cost was very good also, we paid 165 with taxes. Also reccommend a1a aleworks which had an excellent rib-eye with a bernaise sauce and good beer. The fort was cool, and the highlight was the firing of the cannon. If you are going to see the fort, plan it around that demonstration time (130pm when we went.).
Nightmare Night

The room was generally clean. No major complaints there, but there were two open soda containers in the fridge. We overlooked the soda cans and the fact that the receptionist who checked us in was unfriendly to say the least. What was unacceptable was the following: The night we were there, the hotel was hosting a wedding. Apparently most of the wedding guest stayed at the hotel and partied ALL night. They yelled in the hallways...and even when they were in there rooms with the doors shut-there was no peace and quiet. I called the front desk the first time at 2 AM-the clerk acted with little concern-but said they would do something. Nothing happened. I called again at 3, with the same response. I am pregnant and didn't get sleep until around 5 AM when they finally decided to be quiet. The hotel staff did absolutely nothing and when I said something to the lady at check out-all I got was an-Im sorry. Well, Im sorry, this was TOTALLY unacceptible.
