Worst Hotel Experience Ever

I have never written a bad review, but I am writing this review to save some headaches for someone else. First of all, when we arrived, I was very disappointed because the hotel looked nothing like the deceiving pictures, both inside and out. The reason that we picked this hotel was because we thought it was beachfront, however the very busy highway made the walk to the beach extremely dangerous. There were so many rules posted throughout the hotel (ie, no using the ice machine for coolers, no using towels for the beach, no ashes on the balcony etc), we found this to be very unprofessional. To top off the entire trip, I was charged not only for our 2 night stay but also an additional $500 for a missing cable box! Do not make the mistake that we did, stay somewhere else!!

Unique Quality: None!

DO NOT STAY HERE!!

I called on Thursday May 12th to book a room for Saturday the 14th, upon arrival we were informed that our reservation was made for Friday the 13th. The man that I booked the room through spoke very little English and obviously mixed up the dates, no problem, mistakes happen, right? Well, we were also in formed that our credit card had been run for Friday night (the day BEFORE our reservation) and that it was too late to get a room for Sat because they were full. No attempt to accommodate us was made, Lisa at the front desk was very unapologetic, and we left with no place to stay for my husbands birthday! Luckily there are a few other hotels, not motels, on that steet in Vilano Beach and we were able to secure lodging for the night. We called back Monday to speak to the manager/owner, I suppose, and he said, "well, all I can do is apologize" WRONG!!! What any other hotel would do in a situation such as this is reinburse for their mistake, discount another night, and/or upgrade to a better room. ZERO customer service! We will never go there again, and I sincerely suggest that none of you do either. They will only charge you for a room you don't stay in and not care one way or another if you, the customer, is satisfied! UNACCEPTABLE!

Travel Tips for Saint Augustine

See the restored Spanish...

by lourdesmaria

See the restored Spanish Quarter and The Oldest House. It will give you a window into the conditions and hardships the Spanish endured to settle the area. The Oldest House. You could feel the influences of the various families who lived there. As life improved in the house, so did living conditions in the rest of the settlement. Below is a picture of The Oldest House when the first family, Gonzales-Alvarez, lived there. Gonzales was a common soldier in the 16th century. The rooms did not have glass windows only shutters. A small fire was kept burning even in the summer as a means to discourage the mosquitos that were everpresent. Twelve people lived in this one room: Mr. & Mrs. Gonzales-Alvarez and 10 children.

A little history and nature

by tigerskeet

Boat ride to small outpost south of St. Augustine. Has nice boardwalk nature trail thru the dunes. Nice place to picnic in the shade. Great beaches nearby without all the hsutle and bustle of tourist traps.

This really helped me

by Starfisha1a about The restaurant guide

I recently visited St. Augustine and was very frustrated. Most of the restaurants seemed to be tourist-based. Lots of cutsey themes but not so much good food. I found a couple of places I liked:
Gaufres and Goods which is an adorable custom waffle place on Aviles Street run by a Polish couple and I also liked Pizza Garden which is on Anastasia near the beach and has wonderful pasta and pizza.

I only discovered them because I found an online guide. Unfortunately I had been there a week before I found it so for those of you who read this B4 you go:

http://www.augustine.com/vacation/restaurant_index.php at least it describes the restaurants and includes a picture and a map. Very useful for someone looking for a restaurant who doesn't live there and know their way around. Waffles

Great for a cheap lunch!!

by xxwishnonstarzz about Borrillo's Pizza & Subs

Little pizza/italian shop. New York style, HUGE slices, some of the best pizza I've ever had. The lunch special can't be beat: 2 slices of cheese (toppings 35 cents extra each) and a large drink for $4.80-ish after tax. They've also got all the staples for places like this: pasta marinara, stromboli, calzones, etc. Pizza, of course!!
