St augustine= things to keep off "the Bucket List"

Location is good. Pretty close to most things. You'll probably take one of the tour trains to get around. This hotel is in a great location but like much of St. Augustine, it is raggedy and could use some upkeep. Almost all the Keycard locks are, in one way or another, held together by duct tape. The air conditioners are dirty (the parts that blow air) and loud, and they all leak outside on the walkway. So when you're walking on the ground floor, you have to be careful not to get dripped on. The sheets and pillow covers look like someone already slept in them. From the head and body wrinkles and hair. The grout is moldy or permanently stained. The paint was coming off the wall as if caused by water damage, which is no surprise; there was a leak under the sink. The bathtub drains very slowly so when you're taking a shower, you're standing in a few inches of water, even if you're wearing flip-flops. The TV is ok. The 2 beds are Full Size (54") wide not queens. Even though they don't correct you when you ask for queen size beds. Everything is dingy(even if it doesn't look like it). This hotel is very similar to a few others that we've looked at. We chose to stay here because for the price ($89/night) it was the closest available. The other hotel reviews we've read didn't seem much better. The whole city needs a make-over. I agree with preserving history, but certain things don't fall under that category. The whole city has the attitude that you have to appreciate their less than acceptable condition, and that they have a free pass to "not" maintain it better because it's history. There are a few sights, but unless you're going there for kids who love history, it's not worth it. For adults, it is very similar to Key West; Run-down, crappy handmade crafts, and a few uniquely (worthless) local experiences. If we hadn't come for the kids, we would have left before checking in.

Unique Quality: The romanian receptionist, Honey, was nice.
