St. George st. isn't the only place downtown...
by cfoxygurl197
St. George street is a great place to spend time walking down the pedestrian-only street with plenty of shops, but plenty of people don't even realize there are loads of other small quaint streets that are great for strolls.
Other streets include -
Cordova Street
Charlotte Street
Marine Street
Sevilla Street
Hypolita
Cuna Street
Treasury Street
Orange Street
my favorite kind of bar
by Katmosphere about Trade Winds
This place is GREAT. It's the kind of place that I like best, a real dive bar, real people, great music. Be careful where you sit though, they have this "special" table and if you sit there you're in for a surprise.... You could probably wear your pajamas here and nobody would care...
Tips should be earned!
by jivane about Raintree Restaurant & Steakhouse
We went to what we thought was a 5 star upscale restaurant. The food was good , but the service was mediocre.
Then they bring your bill with the total in about 16pt font and the rest in 8pt so you don't pick up on the scam.
Oh, it's there alright, in the very fine print on the bottom of the menu hidden somewhere under the side dishes and salad dressing.
I know there are a lot of cheapskates out there who don't tip. However, this was not a Wendy's. If you're good, there is no reason to hide the tip in the bill.
By the way, don't expect any integrity from the waiters. Ours practically ran and hid after he pocketed a $32 tip on an $82 bill.
Yes, shame on me for not paying attention. I guess I'm accustomed to dining at respectable and reputable places.
Bottom line, do you want to eat at a place that has to hide the tip in the bill and then takes advantage of it when you don't notice?

Sandwiches, etc.
by sarahjayn about Rendezvous Restaurant
The Rendezvous is litterally a hole in the wall. Located in a little row of tacky tourist shops off of the all-pedestrian St. George Street (you'll see the sign on the outside), the Rendezvous is a small, family-owned cafe that serves mostly sandwiches and imported beer - they got all kinds, stacked up everywhere. One of the main draws to this place is that it isn't that expensive, it isn't touristy, and it has (unlike some of the other sandwich shops) air conditioning. Now, normally I would be as happy as punch and whistle to sit in the open air as long as there's a breeze. However, during the summer months, the pits of hell open up in St. Augustine, occasionally belching out some of the hottest, humidest air known to man. It's not that bad when you are walking about, but it's no weather for trying to enjoy your cheese sandwich. The veggie burgers are very good here.
