I just returned from a stay at the Dolphin Beach Resort and I must say I was appalled. Not in 20 years of service for my country, throughout the third world for crying out loud, have I experienced what I have experienced here in the USA, in this hotel!
Not only are you dive bombed by sparrows while trying to eat on the patio. Rats scurry from bush to bush while lounging by the pool. Elevator doors may or may not open, and the rooms on the south side of the resort have an unidentifiable god-awful stench. All of this, and I've yet to describe the worst.
Put yourself in my shoes. You've spotted rats, a rat trap, the elevator door won't open on your floor, and when you finally return to your room you find ants all over the bathroom sink. You make a call to have someone take care of the ants. Then the next day, you proceed to engage on a night out, only to return and find ants? All over your clothes, pajamas included, and you've put them on and gotten into bed. A hundred plus biting ants up and down your body and then in your bed! Called the next morning, on my way out the door (planned Orlando trip), and ask once again to have it taken care of. Upon my return, the live ants were gone, the dead ants were still there, all over my clothes! Nice, don't you think?
Imagine your week of vacation planned for 6 months, and then having to endure this type of situation. I must say the hotel manager was so kind, I only had to ask for a discount once? Yeah right, thanks for the $20 bucks, lady.

I've read other reviews and cant believe it.I love the dolphin beach real lovely pleasant staff who are always willing to help.The rooms are really clean and dont smell bad.Its definitly a great hotel and gets the thumbs up from me anyday!!!

I was skeptical based on the reviews here, but I had a very pleasant stay. I was on business and spent 9 days at the Dolphin Beach. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was clean and comfortable. The pool and the beach were GREAT! Even the restaurant was good. This is a resort that I'd stay in for a personal trip. From a cost perspective, it was very affordable. I definitely recommend this resort for business or pleasure!

Stayed in Dolphin in 1997, looking at the reviews I see nothing has changed. Other than a good beach the hotel did not have much to offer, staff were students who couldn’t care less and the others were there just to make a living. On the first night we showered and went out, when it came to paying the bill we found there was no cash to be found in any of our wallets/purses !!! hmmm the obvious answer was we had been burgled in the hotel when we went out for the evening walk on the beach earlier that day…
On return to the hotel we complained and guess what, some one else had also been broken into – it seemed a previous guest (burglar/staff/whoever) had a duplicate key, knowing we were out had let themselves into our room and took all the cash (only cash) I guess it could have been worse. Police could not do anything also the owner could not give a toss. We moved as far as possible to Sheraton in Clearwater.
Not Bad, But not Great!!

We have had several family vacations at the Dolphin and have enjoyed the pool and the beach very much. For the age of the hotel, it isn't horrible, but it needs a friendlier staff, people that care for others needs. I have a complaint however, that when I went to check out and gave them my AAA card, they said they couldn't use it, because it wasn't shown at check-in. Why should that matter anyways?? We asked to talk to the manager, and they said she was busy and would be with us soon. We waited over 30 mins. and still didn't talk to the manager. I think this was an unfair call, and we should get our 10% discount that AAA provides. The management needs alot of improvement, other than that, it's an ok hotel for a beach vacation.
Third Visit and planning to return next year

Visited the Dolphin beach betwen July 1st and 10th this year (2004), this was our third visit to the hotel and we already have flights booked for probable return next year. Can't fault it, staff friendly, rooms clean and location absolutely perfect. Nothing better than relaxing by the great pool with a view of the beach just one step from the poolside. For a great lunchtime snack try the "subs" from Publix just across gulf boulevard. Don't be put off by some of the negative reviews on this site, I just don't know what people must be expecting.

Stayed at the Dolphin,between hurricanes Sept 20th Thought it was pretty nice ,rooms was spacious enough (oceanfront), clean. We ate at the restaurant there & it was very good,of course we had the place to ourselves. But I was quite pleased& will go back.

After reading some reviews on here was a little worried but I did not need to be! I stayed here at the begining of October 2004 with my partner and four other members of my family. We found all the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and clean. They were cleaned to a high standard every day. The pool was lovely and the hotel had a great location. I would definately stay here again!
Second Stay Booked

Stayed at the Dolphin Beach back in September 2004 thought everything about the Hotel was above average staff straight to the point but friendly. Rooms were clean and spacious. Location was excellent. Stayed at the HoJo previousley and found this to be substandard compared to the Dolphin Beach. Have booked the Dolphin Beach for next years vacation, cant wait.
Disabled Friendly

As a disabled visitor I was offered help anytime I neeeded it. I am going again in September 2004. My room was very clean, although the air conditioner was noisy.
