Fuel Issues?

by nicros

I am coming over to St Petes in a weeks time on vacation, and am very excited. However there has been reports on the news here in the UK about a fuel crisis in the US and they said people are having to queue at gas stations due to a shortage.

Is this affecting st Petes or is this just new hype?

Also I beleive St Petes was mostly unaffaected by Katrina, is this correct?

RE: Fuel Issues?

There was no storm damage in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area - we were very, very fortunate. As of last night there were more patrons than usual at the pumps, but not really a queue. The prices have gotten higher than usual, but that's to be expected. I hope that you will enjoy your time here!

Travel Tips for Saint Petersburg

Sip margaritas by the ocean while listening to either Jimmy Buffet or some cool ragae. Or visit the pier where you can take the elevator up to cha cha coconuts overlooking the tampa bay, sip on exotic drinks and listen to a live band. Dont drink to much, you want to take that jog on the beach or rent bikes and go riding around the marina the next day. As a young girl, I woke up, put on my suit about 6-7 am, spent the day on the beach till the sun went down with the other kids who lived on the shore. It was like it was our beach.

Was promoted by pioneer and railroad magnate Peter Demenswho began successful efforts to bring a railroad system here in 1888.The town was called St. Petersburg and named after Demens whose birthplace was St. Petersburg, Russia.
St.Petersburg Was explored by the Spanish adventurer Juan Ponce de Leon, who arrived here in 1521 while searching for a fountain of youth. He was followed by explorers Pantilo de Narvaez in 1528 and Hernando de Soto in 1539.
Was explored by pioneers in the 1800s including General John Williams who bought 1700 acres here in 1875, and by Hamilton Disston who sparked St. Pete's first great real estate promotion when he bought four million acres of land from the State in 1881. Disston also built the first hotel and stores in the area.
Began tourist excursions in 1890 when the population was 273. The Orange Belt Railroad brought them to the new town.

Deep Sea Fishing

by arasnosliw

The Gulf of Mexico is an excellent place to fish for grouper and marlin. Take a chartered deep sea fishing boat out into the Gulf for a fresh catch. They will even filet the fish you catch if you don't want to clean them yourself.

Excursions vary in time and location. The website provided below lists a variety of charters in the area.

This is not an activity for the weak-stomached. The waves out at sea are very strong, and the boat rocks incessantly. Be prepared to feel sea sick. Also, be able to handle raw squid. sunscreen, hat, towel
water

if you don't have your own gear, the charters provide fishing rods, tackle, and bait.

Find a local park and take a stroll by the water. It's amazing how many different birds you'll see, and you could catch a glimpse of a jumping dolphin, a manatee lumbering through the water, people of all ages and descriptions fishing, even little alligators may stick their noses up for a visit. Very relaxing!
My favorite city park is across from where we stay each year on Northshore Drive. There are tennis courts, a sandy beach, a swimming pool and block after block of sidewalks along the water with many benches in case you need a breather.
