The more scenic bridge

by GUYON

There are 2 bridges to go from St Petersburg to Tampa : Howard Frankland and Gandy Bridge(+ the Courtney Campbell Causeway from Clearwater).

Which is the one with the best scenic view ?
I am not sure to have the time to pass by both.

Thanks for your answers.

Re: The more scenic bridge

I love the Courtney Campbell. As noted by other posters, there are many parking areas where you can stop and walk on sand (not the beach, but sand beside water nonetheless). It is even a great view if you're just driving across...many minutes of water at eye level on both sides.

The I275 bridge goes way up in the air, so you're not next to the water. However, if you're traveling east, you get a great view of the city skyline.

The Skyway is definitely worth the trip....it really seems like you're driving up to the sky. Maybe even a little creepy. Go at night, and they have the suspension wires lit and they look like they're glowing. Also great to go across at sunset...but don't get too distracted by the sky! Also, beside the Skyway, the old bridge is preserved as piers on either end of the Skyway. Several years back...maybe 10-15 years, a ship ran into the bridge and destroyed it, and therefore the Skyway was built. It costs a couple of dollars to drive on the pier.

These Pelicans are roosting on...

by Beachdave

These Pelicans are roosting on the roof of one of the shoppes. Earlier they were below the balcony feeding on the small fish who live there. It was amazing to see the Pelicans go underneath the water, scoop up a small fish, drain his beak and the swallow the fish after several attempts.

Fishing

by NC_Ziggy

From small craft fishing to deep-sea fishing to fishing from The Pier, these and other activities are readily available and awaiting you in St. Petersburg! Enjoy your stay!%c Just bring yourself! If you have your own gear, you can most certainly put it to the best use here. If you don't have room for fishing gear, rentals are readily available.

Island in da sun...

EGMONT KEY STATE PARK
The island of Egmont Key has unique natural and cultural histories which have made it a valuable resource since the time settlers first arrived in Florida. Named in honor of John Perceval, the second Earl of Egmont and member of the Irish House of Commons in 1763, Egmont Key has had Spanish conquistadors and nuclear submarines pass its shores as they entered Tampa Bay

Visitors can spend the day on the beach sunbathing, swimming in the warm bay waters, walking through the historic ruins of Fort Dade, or walking the brick paths that remain from the days Fort Dade was an active community with 300 residents. A gopher tortoise can be seen at almost every turn as you walk the historic paths. Many visitors are treated to the sight of hummingbirds as well as other seabirds.

January through May guided walks are conducted on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 10:30 AM until 3:30 PM. These walks allow the participants to view the wildlife and natural environment of the island, learn the history of the island and tour the historic lighthouse.

Access to the island is by boat only. The park is located at the mouth of Tampa Bay, southwest of Fort DeSoto Beach. To visit Egmont Key State Park, contact one of the following ferry services for schedules and fees.
