Hi,
It's warming up really well when April comes around, and the rainy season hasn't really started yet. The average temps are in the 80s and starting to get very humid. The GULF,( no ocean here ) water temps in the high 70s make swimming enjoyable. Watch out for the wayward thunderstorms that start brewing this time of year, but they reallyshouldn,t be any problem in April. Enjoy your stay in Florida, and give me a shout when you get here. Craig

April is great in Sanibel and not as crowded as all the snowbirds usually have gone home by then.

We stayed on Sanibel last April. Weather was wonderful 80's during the day, lost of sun, a few early evening thunder showers. Water was very warm, and recently the "red tide" had left which left some fish washed up on the beach but that was no problem. Bring lots of sun screen!!
Travel Tips for Sanibel

Venture into Captiva Island (attatched to Sanibel) and see the sunset at the Mucky Duck. Everyone gets up from their tables and walks out to the beach to watch the sunset. It's great. Peace and quite. There's not much to do in way of night-life, so if you're a partyer, or spring breaker, you will be bored.

You can expect a regular rain shower on a daily basis at certain times. It will usually be in the evening, though, so it shouldn't really ahve a big impact. Lots of film!!! Zoom lenses (if you have) are extremely helpful when shooting at Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. The birds, crocs and gators there are hard to miss.

I highly recommend taking a boat tour to Cayo Costa Island. This little undeveloped island is between Sanibel and Captiva. It is a state park and there is absolutely no development. We took a day trip there, and really had a great time. You are allowed to take beach chairs and coolers, so we took a picnic lunch. We saw lots of wildlife, and got some great shells. It was a very relaxing afternoon.

This little island off Fort Myers is a great little getaway. I went there with my family, I was probably 13 or 14 at the time.
The island is great fun....very relaxing and not a single "fast food" restaurant on the island (by law).
Another thing I remember about the island, Jimmy Buffett supports the Manatee's (sea cows) that live off the shores of Sanibel, and therefore you hear a lot of his music in the local shops.

Sanibel is one of my favorite places to go. The island provides great beaches (shells, fishing, and wildlife. When I am in Sanibel most of my time is either spent at the beach or in Ding Darling National Wildlife Sanctuary. The photography in the park is amazing. The workers are also very nice.
