    Very comfortable, ants in kitchen were a slight problem, but it IS AN ISLAND IN FLORIDA for crying out loud, some bugs are a must have! (For the full Florida experience)

    Larger, with nice porch, but further from ocean. Also had a hot tub. Full kitchen, one bedroom and living and dining rooms.

    All porches seemed to be screened in, and bugs were pesky on the beach at night.

    Don't get mad at me, I have to show you the hot tubs out back behind the cottages! Each unit has it's own hot tub too!

    With a Buttonwood unit rental you get:
    Beach Chairs, Beach Towels, Umbrellas, Kayaks, Fishing Gear, Sand Toys, Outside Shower, Complimentary laundry facility, (and that includes soap and softener), Propane & Charcoal Grills, Hammocks, Two Garden Whirlpools, Bicycles, (including tandem bike).

    Private, quiet, clean and so comfortable! The manager Lisa is so nice, and friendly. She makes this place special. Our first cottage was an efficiency type. Very large, and full of homey touches. Stencils on the walls, little ocean touches everywhere. You couldn't ask for more, and the price made it a real bargain to boot!
    Price can range from $85.00 a night to $285.00 a night, depending on size of cottage, and season renting.

    Hot tub, screened in porch, large kitchen, king size bed. Short walk on private lane to beach. Beach chairs, bikes, kyacks, fishing poles, sand toys, games, washer and dryer on site (free) and complimentary detergent and softener. All that was missing was a private maid to cook and tuck us in!!

    I travel a lot, and stay a lot of places. This cottage was everything I expected and more! The privacy would make it perfect for a honeymoon cottage.

    Clean, reasonably priced for the season and place. Right on the beach, good shelling beach too! Has a restaurant on site and kids ate free with paying adult at time of my visit. Also has a smallish pool and a pool bar/snack bar, which was convenient for Pina Coladas and quick bite. I got the best rate when calling Holiday Inn's 800 number, better than Travelocity, Expedia or Orbitz, so shop around. The hotel was about $200 a night for high season, discount price. But be forewarned, they charged me $10 a night extra for a cot, which I don't remember being charged at other hotels.

    Great shelling beach. Another good thing (at least for me because we left the island a lot) was its location near the front of the island.

    • You don't need to spend $250+ per night for top notch beachfront lodging in pricey Sanibel. For $130 (off season), our efficiency hotel room came with a spectacular view of the gulf from our own private deck, in a resort setting that was attractive, modern and well-maintained. This has got to be one of the best bargains on the island.

    The Shalimar includes all the standard amenities - a nice pool, cable TV, bikes and grills available, etc. But the real attraction is that it's one of the few places that are literally right on the beach. No need to trek across the dunes because the sand comes right up to the end of the building.

    While Shalimar also has several cottages available, I'd recommend an upstairs room in what they call the "motel" building. Rooms 11, 12, 13 and 14 all have great views of the gulf, the beach and the sunset - you'll never even turn the TV on!

    The island does offer traditional hotels, small and large, some on the water and some not. The larger facilities will have on-site restuarants and bars which forces you out to mingle with other guests and their towage for each meal....phooey!

    All resorts on Sanibel don't offer on-site water sports other than a skiff to fart around. Maybe some wind surfer stuff. None on the gulf at least.

    Very comfortable complex like most on the island. I prefer small complexes to reduce the number of annoying young humans units that might inhabit the grounds. Stayed on a few others also..recommend Pelican's Roost as well. A nicer beach front two bedroom condo will run about $900-1200/week off peak and $1,600-2,500 in season.

    Don't be cheap.....pay the extra money to get a beach front unit, it's worth it. If it's just the two of you, don't bother looking for a one bedroom unit, most are two on the island and typically you can negotiate for the same price and have a bigger place...remember that's why God invented furniture...to be used ;-)
