Convenient to I-75

Hampton Inns are generally consistent and this was no exception. Front desk staff were courteous and helpful, even printing out a map to a restaurant I needed to find. The location is right off the Interstate, so you won't see any beaches but maybe a swaying palm or two. Plenty of restaurants, gas stations, and shopping, with big box stores nearby. But all was not right.

Unique Quality: I did have one bizarre experience here that left me a bit unsettled. When we went out to dinner, I left my laptop on. A couple days later I found a strange file name on my pc and opened it. It was a photo of a crude message someone had posted on a social network and the timestamp was during the time we were out for dinner. I contacted the hotel and they produced a record of the times the room door was opened and by whom. Since I knew that I had gone in and out more times than their record showed, their records had to be wrong/modified by someone. Very disappointing.

Where to see manitees???

by oliviasoma

Hello,
Coming to Florida the first week in June and would love to take my grandchildren to see wildlife with out restrictions of zoos, etc. Any suggestions as to various places to see manitees, birds, etc, from Hudson/Clearwater area across to the eastern side around Daytona and Cocoa beaches?
Thanks for any information,
O

HI,
I had a few spottings from the 7 mile bridge in the keys. Another time I took a boat ride out from Everglades city and saw quite a few.

Manatee season is in the winter months, so your chances of seeing wild ones are a bit slim. Your best bet would be to visit Blue Springs State Park. If there are any, you will be within arms reach away from them. If there arn't any you are welcomed to swim and snorkel in the springs. The water is a cold 72 degrees, but it is crystal clear water and still worth a visit. The entrance fee to the state park is only $5 per car. The park is located between Orlando and Daytona Beach.

In the winter one of the best spots is near the Florida Power and Light, FPL, plant in Fort Myres. The power plant is on the Caloosahatchee river and is easily seen from the bridge on I75. There is a viewing area across from the plant on State Road 80. The power plant is required to maintain a power level high enough to keep the manatees warm in the discharge of the plant.

Here is a site with more information: http://www.fws.gov/caloosahatchee/

A: "The beaches on Siesta Key are quite good with restaurants near by. Also, just south of St Petersburg there is a very nice beach that gets a lot of local traffic."
