Sarasota is a wonderful town, although it will be hot in mid-September. But being near the water (Sarasota Bay) you may get some cooler breezes. Don't forget to drive to St. Armand's Circle, a great up-scale shopping area. There are plenty of grocery stores nearby, including Publix and a Whole Foods. Enjoy!

Travel Tips for Sarasota

The Ringling Museum of Art

by yooperprof

Sarasota is a city which is developing as an arts and culture center on the Gulf Coast. The gem of this small city is the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, which has an excellent collection, concentrating on Late Renaissance and Baroque painting and sculpture. The courtyard and gardens of the museum feature replicas of famous pieces in a setting which would have pleased the most aesthetic of Italian princes. The Ringlings may not have been an Italian princely family, but they were certainly serious and thoughtful art collectors.

Warm waters spring

by eugini2001

That's just a serum water spring. You'll meet a lot of old people there, mostly from Brooklyn,NY.Most of them originally from former the USSR,but... you can enjoy Russian style Raviolli in near by cafe! My daughter liked their big green parrot that says 'Hi" & Bye' that sounds almost the same!

ORIENTAL RESTAURANT

by LoriPori about SPLENDID BUFFET

Hans and I were both in the mood for a Chinese Buffet. Lo and Behold - SPLENDID BUFFET. And it was totally awesome. They offered a wonderful "All-you-can-eat", delicious Buffet consisting of steamed Crab Legs, giant prauns, peel-and-eat shrimp.sweet & Sour Chicken, Sushi, BBQ Spare Ribs and much much more. They even had a Mongolian BBQ section. Also a soup and salad bar and dessert & fruit selections.
Needless to say, we enjoyed it very much and at $8.99 a real bargain.

Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary

by sarahjayn

As you are walking about in Sarasota, you'll see little tin cans and boxes near almost every single cash register in town for the Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary. Pelican Man was started by Dale Shields, local hero, who has saved literally hundreds of birds and animals. Most birds are released back into their natural habitat, but the birds that are premanently disabled live in his sanctuary that is open to the public. Here you can see all kinds of local birds, including rare ones like the Rosette Spoonbill. Plus, you can feel good because your donation goes to helping care for the animals.
