by cwhit21

Does anyone know of any cheap fishing trips in the Sarasota area. Either sea or lake fishing. Any tips be great. Thanks

Re: Fishing

by KayakAdventures

Try fishing in Sarasota Bay off of South Lido. The waters are warm. So you can either wade out or rent a kayak (check out Almost Heaven Kayak Adventures - www.kayakfl.com). There are some awesome deep holes. Fresh bait works best.

It doesnt get much cheaper than that!

Travel Tips for Sarasota

Sarasota is lucky enough to...

by Tolik

Sarasota is lucky enough to boast tropical sunshine, balmy breezes, clear Gulf of Mexico waters and island beaches covered with the world whitest sand. Findings of the remains of prehistoric men at huge shell mounds, called middens, date early man to have lived, hunted, fished thousands of years ago. South of Sarasota, at Warm Mineral Springs, 45 feet below the surface of the mineral-rich waters, the skull of a 10,000 year-old Paleo-Indian was found, representing one of the oldest finds of this type in this hemisphere. Archaeologists of this century have discovered remnants of early architecture and lifestyles in the shell mounds of the Calusa and Timucuan tribes, who settled the coastlines more than 2,500 years ago. The Timucuans inhabited the Sarasota Bay Coast for many years and then migrated northward; the Caloosas later moved into area around Sarasota and were headquatered around Charlotte Harbor.

Myakka River State Park

by sarahjayn

Surprisingly few people visit Myakka River State Park while in Sarasota. It's just as well - a bunch of people would totally ruin it.
The park houses the 14 mile-long Myakka River, which is one of Florida's few unspoiled places. You can canoe down the river in your own boat or rent one from the Myakka River Outpost.
There's also a bunch of walking trails / some paved bike trails, and the Canopy Walkway, a suspension bridge that allows you to be immersed in the canopy. There are also airboat tours that I have never been on, but people tell me they are pretty good and not the usual lame airboat experience.
If you think that one day isn't enough, there's also plenty of campground here. There's a large, full-facility campground, a youth campground, and five "historic" cabins that were built in the 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps. These cabins have been modernized, so don't expect to feel like Daniel Boone or anything. I don't think there's any primitive camping here, which is kind of a shame because it's a really beautiful place. Both the campgrounds and the cabins can be reserved online via http://www.reserveamerica.com

Great Thai food

by geekgrrl about Pad Thai

This is a small little restaurant in a strip mall, but the food was excellent and inexpensive. We ate here a couple of times while we were in Sarasota. I had another variation of Nam Sod, my favorite Thai salad, along with my favorite soup – coconut, chicken soup. Both lived up to my expectations.

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is a “must see” for the art lovers. Take a trip back in time as you stroll through 22 galleries of this world-class museum. Housed in a pink Italian Renaissance villa, Ringling Museum www.ringling.org is filled with more than 500 years of European and American art, including one of the world’s most important collection of grand 17th –century baroque paintings. The old master collection also includes five world-renowned tapestry cartoons by Peter Paul Rubens. The museum contains amazing collections of decorative arts. See more about the Museum in my travelogue.
