I'm a 20-something-need-to-dance gal visiting my hubby's family in Sarasota in July. Where-oh-where can I party at night? Dancing (Top40, HipHop) preferred over just-bars. Thanks in advance!

While I'm not exactly an expert on Sarasota nightlife, it's been my experience that it's easier to find a top-1940s club than a top-40 club in that area.
I'd guess there are probably some alternative places for the New College / Ringling crowd, tho I've never found them meself...

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art ________________________________________________________The Museum complex is the legacy of John Ringling (1866-1936), and his wife, Mable (1875-1929). John Ringling bequeathed his Art Museum and its art collection, Cà d'Zan (Venetian dialect for 'House of John', the Ringling winter residence), garden and extensive grounds overlooking Sarasota Bay to the people of Florida. The State took possesion of the estate in 1946. A. Everett Austin Jr., the first director of the Museum, added theRingling Museum of the Circus in 1948 and the 19th-century Asolo Theater from Asolo, Italy, in 1950.

Spanish Point might be an...

Spanish Point might be an attraction easily missed. Don't be fooled by the little visitors center. Be prepared to spend several hours walking through this historic area. This step back in time was worth every blister on my feet. The sunken garden alone is worth seeing not to mention the most wonderful little church, the huge family homestead and guest house and the botanical lessons learned along the paths are numerous. Take your camera and plan on spending an afternoon imagining the lives
of the family that lived there and then donated this historic property for us to enjoy.
Every thing nice about Amish Food

Sarasota is home to a pretty large Amish and Mennonite community. (Check out the documentary Devil's Playground to learn a little about Sarasota's Amish, They are only in it a little, but the documentary is awesome all in all.) This place serves up traditional Amish-style cooking and is staffed mostly by Mennonite women. There's also crafts, quilts, and cookbooks made by locals for sale. The quilts are the type of quality that you could pass them on for generations. I've always been kind of sad that I can't afford one.
Oh, yeah, the food is pretty good, too. During strawberry season, the strawberry shortcake is the best!
Coastal Walk at Selby Gardens

This wonderful walk skirts the edge of the water. Here and there we see water birds and we walk through really tropical gardens. Its a world away from the city nearby . Once and a while we get a glimpse of the outside world but much has been delibertly and wisely blocked out by the huge stand of bamboo.
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens....

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The gardens occupy 8.5 bayfront acres with an open air and under glass museum of more than 20,000 colorful plants.
The gardens also has a world famous collection of over 6,000 living orchids.
