Relocation question

by DUKE3100

I know this is a travel forum but I have been considering relocating to Sarasota on and off for some time. I can't find any other forum with people who can tell me about their area. I am a single 28 year old male with a business degree and sales/customerservice/foodservice experience. I want to move to an area that has plenty of jobs and also has a lot of females in the age range of 21-35. Sarasota seems to be up and coming but my main concern is that there is no nightlife and places to get crazy and meet women. I like dance clubs and hip hop/techno. I don't need Miami night life but It would help to know that it is easy to get a job...that the people are easy to get to know and in my age group and that there is enough nightlife to have a lot of fun on a friday or saturday night. The area use to have the reputation of having no night life and not being for single people. Is this still true or is Sarasota a good place for a single 28 year old? I am looking for a place in Flordia that is by the beach but is not out of control like Daytona or Miami...where I can have the best of both worlds....fun when I want it and some peace when I want it too.

If you're gay, there's the Cheetah Club on old 301. Other than that, its Memories Lounge. There's not much nightlife.

hi --

perhaps you should consider the fort lauderdale area. in addition to fort lauderdale itself, there are many smaller towns very close by that are on the beach. i was just in pompano beach for a week and liked it, tho i'm not sure there is very much nightlife. but fort lauderdale has a lot, i know. there are also lots of fun things to do in the fort lauderdale area.

PS -- of course, fort lauderdale is on the east coast and sarasota is on the gulf coast. this will affect the weather some and definitely the temperature of the water.

PPS -- i don't know anything about the job situation in that area, tho.

Travel Tips for Sarasota

ANNA MARIA ISLAND

by LoriPori

With its quaint village shopping and rustic beach cottages, ANNA MARIA ISLAND was a pleasure to visit. We took a nice walk on the Anna Maria City Pier. Some were having a bite to eat in the little restaurant at the end of the pier. Pelicans were swooping down into the water looking for a meal. Folks were fishing. All-around nice surroundings and it was a beautiful day.
The famous towering Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay is visible from Anna Maria's north end.
Take advantage of the free island trolley. Ride as often as you like any day of the week.

Payne's Creek State Park

by yooperprof

Payne's Creek State Park is about 40 miles southeast of Sarasota, in a little-traveled section of central Florida. It's one of the places in Florida which hasn't been Disneyfied. In the 19th Century, Florida was Seminole Country, and the natives didn't give it up without a fight, as this marker bears witness.

hemingway's retreat is a casual tropical style restaurant. the cuisine is american with a florida accent. good food moderately priced. dinner reservations recommended during the winter tourist season.

John Ringling Museum and the Cà d'Zan

by radiominor

This museum is the wonderful art collection of John and Mable Ringling. A few of the highlights include works by Cranach, Rubens, Poussin, Hals, Van Dyck, Pietro da Cortona, and Guercino. The art collection consists of over 10,000 objects including paintings, tapestries, and sculptures. This is a must see. Also take some time and visit the Circus Museum on the grounds, it is a truly enjoyable experience.

Mote Marine Aquarium

by sarahjayn

The Mote Marine Aquarium is part of Mote Marine Laboratory, a facility for the study of local marine biology. The staff, therefore, is freakishly knowledgeable. It's also a really good place to see local animals. Plus, they offer all kinds of crazy programs that allow you to get even closer to Flipper and the like.

A: "The beaches on Siesta Key are quite good with restaurants near by. Also, just south of St Petersburg there is a very nice beach that gets a lot of local traffic."
