Silver Springs info
by grandmaneese
Sorry folks, don't have a picture or anything to take one..lol
My family and I are going to Silver Springs and it has been a long time since I have been. I know they have wheelchairs for those who need them, but my question: Does anyone know when you rent a chair and time for luch (which we will have a basket in our van) what will happen to the chair and would we have to re-rent one going back in the park, assuming you can re-enter?
Thanks for any help- and ASAP would really be nice!

hope this helps...
Travel Tips for Silver Springs
Go ahead and be Mesmerized
by KARLPORTER56
If there is one word I can use to describe Silver Springs it is mesmerizing.. I just remember being mesmerized by the Grizzlies ,but for some crazy reason I remember George being totally captivated by this fountain of all things. We actually had to pull him away so we could enter the park. He was captivated by the motion of the water. Something which has helped him in sports as well as his artistic endeavors. The glass bottom boats and actually seeing the springs feeding the river all mesmerizing.. This is a good theme park..Many parks in Florida have more but this park will capture your brain for a few hours.. The Grizzlies and watching George for the first time hypnotized by a simple thing like a fountain. You could actually see the springs feeding the water into Silver Springs.. which to me was more unusual than the several spieces of fish you could see from the glass bottom boats..
Ocala Natinal Forest birding
by davecallahan
Birding is great at Ocala National Forest because of the diversity of the landscape.
Semi-swamps and pine-tree shelters and scrub-brush fields; calm lakes, dark lagoons and small running creeks.
You will be able to see the ever-present cranes and kites. There are a few eagles. Most of the birds are warblers, flycatcher, tanagers, jays.
(caution... there are some bears in the denser parts of the woods. and alligators are in the lagoons and streams.)
The two easiest birding trails to reach are at the Juniper Springs entrance (route 40) and the Salt Springs entrance (junction of routes 314 and 19). There are brochures at the Park Centers at those two locations which show the nature trails.
You can hike the trails or rent canoes and see the shore and wading birds that way also.
The trails and canoe run each take about 3 hours. If you are short of time, there are some feeders in the fields near the entrances and a short mini-trail loop of about one mile. But the better birding is on the longer trails and down the stream.
If you take the canoe, there is a shuttle which will return to the parking area where you started.
to get there: take route 40, 24 miles east of Silver Springs and see signs
Silver Springs

Here's their web site for more information Silver Springs just east of Ocala on Route 40 off I-75. There's also a water park there that is fun for eveyone. It had a large tidal wave pool and a few nice tube slides and a real nice area for the smaller ones. We last visited this place in the late 80's I think so it has been awhile since we stopped in there. The monkeys were left after they made the Tarzan movies the real Tarzan movies from the early years. Just don't stop up next to them they WILL get in your boat and they are nasty. You can take your own boat into the silver river east of the park on Route 40. You will see a boat launching ramp and picinic area. They used to have it restricted that you couldn't get up into the silver spring area but they couldn't stop the public from coming up into the river so they opened up the gates in the river and you can go all the way into the site seeing area now with a regular gas powered boat, It used to be only electric glass bottom boats only part of their attraction, now it's a free for all. We would rent a little metal boat from u-haul and take it up in there for a full day of swimming and site seeing. Look how beautiful the crystal clear water. It's a natural spring feed waters and it's alittle chilly It stays the same tempature year round so only on the hottest of days will this water feel good.
