sumatra florida is a tiny town located in the appalachicola national forest about 30 miles northeast of appalachicola on SR65. sumatra is of little interest for tourists except for the interesting fort gadsden historic site nearby and the family coastal restaurant. the appalachicola national forests offers hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping opportunties for the tourist. for students of 19th century history the fort gadsden historic site is well worth a visit.
