The best hotels are right on Clearwater Beach. Late Feb usually has mostly beach days, but you may come across a few chilly days as well. International Plaza in Tampa is my favorite mall there. Is there any particular reason you chose Tampa over Miami?

You can find hotels along the beach. You may also look into renting a condo at the beach, if you are staying more than a few days. International plaza is a very very nice mall but its across the bay. You may want to check-out country side 27001 US Hwy 19 N Clearwater, FL 33761-3402 Phone: (727) 796-1079 but will also find plenty of shoping and restaurants along that beach and the beach coast that extends to Passagrill (St. Petersburg). The weather is very nice right now and it should be nice during your visit.

Last March I stayed at a brand new complex, Pelican Pointe Condos, operated by the Sirata resort. It was across the street from the beach but the hotel was great, reasonably priced, and centrally located.

This is a busy time of year so I don't know if you would be able to get a room but it may be worth trying.

Here is a link to their website: http://www.condosbysirata.com/pelicanpointe.html

If you decide to stay there let me know and I can tell you about some great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

Have fun and enjoy your trip!

Try looking a little further down the coast - Indian Rocks beach - Madria Beach
even Treasure Island. Hotels tend to be less than in Clearwater or a condo can be a real money saver for a week long stay. If you like to eat out you are close to lots of local fare in this area and beach isn't as crowded. If you like crowds go to Treasure Island or stay in Clearwater.

Check out "Plumlee Rentals" unsure of the exact web address - google it. They list a lot of great options.

Its a great area and close to lots of things.

Many people like to watch sunset while they’re on vacation in Hawaii. What most people seem to miss is that seeing the sun dip into the ocean is only half of the show and the best is yet to come. Do yourself a favor when you got to Hawaii and watch how the sky and water change colors after sunset. Just pause, relax, and enjoy it.

Travel Tips for Tampa

Tampa Theater

by Ewingjr98

Tampa Theater is a historic building that opened in 1926. This 1,446 seat theater was immensely popular back in the early-to-mid 1900s, but fell on hard times in the 1960s and 70s. The City of Tampa purchased this landmark property in 1976, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Today the theater has been completely revitalized and it hosts some 600 first run and classic films, concerts, special events, corporate events and more, drawing some 135,000 visitors annually.

It is located at 711 N Franklin Street and the Tampa Theater can be reached at (813) 274-8981.

Bring an Umbrella

by Kushelkitten

An umbrella is a necessary part of life in Florida especially during rainy season. In the summer months you can pretty much set your watch by the afternoon "thunderbumpers". However if you have to go out in a heavy downpour even an umbrella won't help you too much but as the rain begins to let up it will come in handy.

pass-a-grille beach

by doug48

pass-a-grille is a historic district on the south end of saint petersburg beach. the town of pass-a-grill has a number of shops and restaurants and a beautiful gulf beach. a very nice area to visit in the tampa bay area. from downtown tampa take I-275 across tampa bay then south past downtown saint petersburg. exit I-275 at the pinellas bay way. take pinellas bayway west to gulf blvd.

Spanish-American War Memorial - U of Tampa Campus

by Ewingjr98

At the University of Tampa, there are numerous historic sites, some obvious--such as the Tampa Bay Hotel, others well hidden--like the spot where Babe Ruth hit his longest home run. One of the more obvious locations sits right along Kennedy Boulevard: the Spanish American War Memorial. This cannon was actually an 8-inch coastal defense gun removed from Fort Dade on nearby Egmont Key. The gun points toward Cuba, and marks one of the locations from which the Cuban invasion was planned.

The concrete base of the gun is marked with famous names and phrases like Admiral Dewey, Remember the Maine, and the Rough Riders.

Hello Kitty held Hostage!

by sarahjayn about International Plaza

Normally, I avoid malls like the plague. I hate shopping like that. However, I have a severe addiction / obsession with Sanrio products (you know, like Hello Kitty, Pochacco, etc.), and this mall houses the only Sanrio Suprises in town.
This mall is the "classy" mall of Tampa, what with stores like Saks gracing it's presence. It's right by the airport, so if you are hungry for some shoe shopping and California Pizza Kitchen right off the plane, you're in luck.
