moving to tampa

by cc871

hi, i have been searching for apartments for my move to tampa. it has been difficult because of my dog. most of these so called pet friendly communities have strict restrictions on breeds. i found 2 that may be possible and would like to get any feedback i can on the area. or if anyone knows about the complex itself that would be great.

1. arbour ponds...2901 north dale mabry highway
Directions

Take I-275, exit north on Dale Mabry. Head north on Dale Mabry and we're approximately 1 mile on the right between Chili's and Kash n Karry. (2 blocks south of Raymond James Stadium).

2. arbor lakes...6161 north memorial highway
Directions

From I-275, take the Airport-Clrwtr. exit. Follow signs to Eisenhower. Turn left at Memorial & continue west. We're on your right before Hillsborough Road

any info on these apartments or the area would be appreciated.

I checked out Arbour Ponds (and seriously considered living there), but I was too poor. I know people who live there and like it. Plus, you're near a dog park at Al Lopez. (It's kind of a crummy dog park, but it is a dog park!)

thanks sarahyayn...i will look more into arbour ponds...how is the traffic in that area around dale mabry highway?...since it only 2 blocks of the staduim i would think it must be real bad for football games.

the rent is 630 on a one bedroom that seems to be about average from what i have seen in the apartment guide...the other complex i listed on north memorial highway called arbor lakes wants 655 for a studio.

what?! they had just undergone a managment change when i looked into them a few months ago and rent was 750. grrr. anyway, the traffic during games is pretty bad, but not horrible. you just can't be in a rush. plus, there's a grocery and shopping right near there, so its possible to use your car less.

I'm not an expert on Tampa, since I grew up in Clearwater, but I'm pretty sure Dale Mabry is one of the major roadways in Tampa and traffic could be pretty bad. On the other hand, I think its at least a six lane highway, so it could be more managable.

i hope the traffic isnt too bad...i have lived in north nj, a high traffic, urban area all my life.

once i get settled in tampa i think will look into going a bit north...maybe posco county or new tampa...ive read theres lots on new development, housing, strip malls, chain reasturarants, ect...guess thats suburbia at its finest..lol...it would be a welcomed change for me.

Travel Tips for Tampa

MacDill Air Force Base

by Ewingjr98

MacDill Air Force Base is located at the southern tip of Tampa, surrounded on three sides by water and on the fourth by the city of Tampa. The land comprising MacDill AFB was in use by the US military as early as the Spanish American War, but wasn't officially under control of the military until 1939, when it was transferred to the War Department. In 1941, MacDill Field was established in honor of Colonel Leslie MacDill, who was killed in an aircraft accident in 1938. Today the base is home to the 6th Air Mobility Wing (6 AMW), which flies the KC-135R Stratotanker and the C-37A Gulfstream V.

MacDill is also home to Headquarters, United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), Headquarters, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Headquarters, United States Special Operations Central Command (USSOCCENT), and Headquarters, United States Marine Corps Forces Central Command (USMARCENT).

Shots

by tafurojo

If you are at the St Pete Times Forum for a Lightening or Storm home game make sure you stop by Shots for your pregame drinks. Its fitting to down a few shots of your favorite liquor before stumbling in for a game.

Columbus Monument

by Ewingjr98

The Christopher Columbus Monument is located just south of the central business district along Bayshore Drive. The statue was created by Albert Sabas, and features a statue of Columbus atop a stone pillar.

The statue is located in aptly named Columbus Statue Park which is the northern end of Bayshore Boulevard Linear Park.

Oak Haven River Retreat offers canoeing, kiacking and even cottages to spend the night

Has guided wildlife tours, sunrise, sunset and moonlight canoe and kayak trips.

If you are traveling on Interstate 275 into Tampa, exit at Fowler Avenue (new exit #51) and head east towards Temple Terrace. Drive approximately four miles to Gillette Avenue. Turn left and go to the stop sign. Turn left onto Riverhills Drive and go approximately four blocks. At the median, bear right and at the end of the road turn right into our driveway.

Lagers, Ales, and Stouts - - oh my!

by sarahjayn about The Irish Fox and Hound's

The Fox and Hound's is a great place to just go and decompress. There's nothing at all fancy about this place, and the waitresses are really, really nice. There's a full bar and they serve pub food. For some reason, you can still smoke inside . . . I dunno how they work that out. There is live music every weekend night and they host dart competitions and a Tuesday Trivia night. The owners are actually from Ireland - - it's the closest thing to the real thing. Come as you are.
