Tampa is a pretty big city.
I dont know what you want to do there or see but i would suggest you rent a car when you get there.
You can reserve a car and pick it up at the airport or to save a little money, if your hotel has pick up from the airport, you can rent a car outside of the airport.
One of the best car rental companies is Hertz but they are also one of the most expensive. Most of the companies at the airport will be good like Budget and Avis.
Hope this helps a little

Definitely rent a car. New Port Richey is about 45-60 minutes from the airport depending on traffic. Check out the various rental agencies online - Budget, Hertz, Avis, National, Enterprise (I've always gotten good rates from them), etc. You can also check expedia.com or travelocity.com to compare prices. I'd book ahead for a (usually) better rate. Enjoy!
Travel Tips for Tampa
Tampa's historic City Hall
by Ewingjr98
Located at 315 John F Kennedy Blvd, E in downtown Tampa is the City Hall, built in 1915. Architects Bonfoey and Elliott designed the building with a three-story base and its narrower 8-story central office tower. This building was placed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks in 1974 and is open to the public. The clock is named Hortense in honor of Mrs Hortense Ford, its key donor, and the daughter of Tampa's first doctor.
City Hall is home to Tampa's City Council.
Spanglish
by sarahjayn
A lot of people don't know this about the United States, but it is a country with no official language. This is really true in some parts of Tampa (read: West Tampa, some nitches of Ybor City) where Spanish and / or Spanglish is more popular than English. It's not like New York or anything, where a hundred languages are being thrown in every direction, but it can make for some interesting hand-signal-and-broken-discourse communication. Also, there's a great and wonderful use of "Spanglish" - the combination of Spanish and English - here. My grandmother is a Spanglish-ologist.
So, don't get all huffy if someone doesn't understand you right away. It's just part of the culture, and I think it makes Tampa more interesting.
Great Kayaking and Canoeing
by katecpa
Took a bunch of kayaks a canoes from Windsong Charters - what a great time! No aligators! Saw dolphin and manatee. They also have the best rates around!
They also have sailboats and pontoon boats. Super nice people and they make sure you have a fun day on the water!
