night life of Tampa
by marlen504
Hello, please advice me what to do in Tampa for fun? Are there any good discos, clubs? I will arrive there in November...

Ybor City is their clubs and bars district. I was out there several years ago, and it reminded me of Tijuana, without any character. It may be worth looking into.

Yes, Ybor has quite a variety of clubs for every taste. You might also try the Channelside area near the Tampa Convention Center. This is accessible from Ybor by stret car until 2a.m. on weekends. If you have transport you might also look into the area around the University of South Florida campus, or even St Petersburg Beach, which is a much quieter laid back scene, but fun nonetheless. Good luck...

Travel Tips for Tampa
Go see Wildlife on easy...
by aTrifle
Go see Wildlife on easy street. Only locals really know about it. It is a rescue sanctuary for big cats. They are non-profit so for really cheap they will take you on a tour of the place and if you are really nice they might let you pet a tiger. http://www.wildlifeeasyst.com/ Your chances of seeing snow are one in a million!
cuban sandwiches
by arasnosliw
When it comes to deli sandwiches, the local favorite has always been cuban sandwiches. No matter where you go in Tampa Bay, you'll be sure to run into a place that serves them. Even the local ice cream parlors serve them.
The infamous cuban is shaped like a sub sandwich; it differs in the fact that it is made on cuban bread and is pressed with a hot grill called a plancha.
The standard cuban always has ham, roast pork, cheese, and pickles. It generally has no other vegetables or condiments on it aside from butter and mustard. There's many varieties of the cuban that are original, but time and time again I find the original to be the most tasty.
redneck beaches
by arasnosliw
The 13 mile Courtney Campbell Causeway may be the last place you thought of to go to the beach, especially since the narrow beaches stretch alongside the highway. Not the most idyllic, peaceful of places. Locals affectionately call the causeway beaches the "redneck beaches" because they're commonly full of families in pick up trucks, drinking beers, fishing, getting sunburnt in their wifebeaters. Towards the Tampa end of the causeway is a sandy beach. Otherwise, the rest of the causeway is merely rocky. Hey, if you look beyond the "redneck" status of the causeway, you'll realize that it is actually a very convenient place to fish, launch a boat, or just relax under the sun. This technically is the closest beach to Tampa afterall.
Derek Jeter's Castle - Davis Islands
by Ewingjr98
Derek Jeter is in the process of building a waterfront house on Davis Islands just south of downtown Tampa. He purchased adjoining waterfront properties in 2005 and 2006 for $7.7M and soon removed both houses to make way for his massive 30,000 square foot mansion that features 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. When completed, the house will be the largest in all of Hillsborough County, complete with a pool and two three-car garages.
Jeter's home puts George Steinbrenner's tiny $3.65M, 13,480 square feet home to shame.
Hand gliding in Florida
by tampa_shawn
Yes you heard right you can hand glide in Florida!
This is done at from a custom mini hand gliding only airport at the Walleby Ranch.
Since we don't have mountains in Florida they use Aerotowing to get you in the air
....Aerotowing is a system where a hang glider is towed aloft with a specially designed ultralight towplane (a so-called 'aerotug', or 'tug', for short).
Located near Orlando in Davenport - approximately 70 miles from Tampa
