Titusville's Outdoor Living
by Dreams8591
Titusville is across the Intercoastal Waterway from the Kennedy Space Center. We are also just miles from the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, where you can find over 500 endangered species. Birdwatchers from around the world come here to view the different species of birds. It's fun to go down fishing & see dolphins, manatees, sharks, and sometimes even alligators. If you enjoy the outdoors this is a great place to be. I haven't lived here long, but I really enjoy it. Titusville is 30 mins from Orlando and 30 mins from Cocoa Beach. We also are approximately 10 miles from The Canaveral National Seashore, which is the largest stretch of untouched beach left on the entire Eastern Seaboard.

The Visitor Center at KSC is a must see. It is one of the major tourist attractions in the United States. Bus tours take visitors throughout the center to visit the launch sites, the space station assembly building, the vehicle assembly building (which was once the largest building in volume in the world). It also features two IMAX theaters, which feature 3D movies of the launch and other space features. At the visitor center there are restaurants, a rocket garden and a museum and other exciting things to see.

The city hosts a Birding Festival annually in November. The Space Center property is the winter home of many migratory birds and many more native species. This makes this the hot spot for bird watchers year round. I have recently visited the Black Point Nature Drive and saw many birds, I can’t name many since I just got a little interested. I did identify an osprey, a great egret, a great blue heron, roseate spoonbills, white pelicans, coot, mallards, diving ducks, common gulls, and shearwaters.

The Indian River which is actually a saltwater lagoon of the Atlantic Ocean offers excellent fishing, shrimping, crabbing, boating, water skiing, and camping on the many dredge islands. I have partaken of all it can offer and attest to the fun it affords. A good night’s catch below.
Titusville Tip

My most memorable moment was watching the first shuttle launch. The sight and sound was awesome. If possible, schedule your visit to observe a Shuttle launch. Day launches are beautiful, and night launches are spectacular. Pictures will follow.
