Travel Tips for Treasure Island

Sand Burs and Sun Burns

by ChetLemmon

Treasure Island is far from the rushed society many of us wake up to every Monday morning. Treasure Island is very relaxing. Though watch out! Many people like to wander off around the beaches of Treasure Island. Watch out if you are bare footed. Off the regularly traveled pathes and beach areas, one can expect to find sand burs stuck to the bottom of one's foot....and they hurt!

Becareful about the sun. Many don't realize it until it is too late. A bad sun burn can ruin any trip. Just use common sense about staying out in it too long. You don't want your back to be a big blister and then pop under your t-shirt and it look like ice tea... My fondest memories of Treasure Island are the outstanding sunsets and scenery. There is a picture of a typical sunset on the left.

Drum Circle

by lucasmc

Every sunday night at sundown there are tons of locals and some seasonals playing instruments in a big circle on the beach. The music is good and the people are fun. A great getaway from all the tourist traps.
just go down south on gulf blvd. until you hit the treasure island fun center. It is on the beach accross from the center. You will hear it.

Ft. DeSoto Park

by ChetLemmon

This is an old Spanish fort that has been converted into a park. Much of the fort and its weaponry are still there and can be walked on/through.

The park has a series of beaches that one can walk out to the sand bar and get as many sand dollars as one can hold.

There are also two fishing piers at the park. Spanish Mackeral are the fish of choice here.

Ft. Desoto Park 2

by ChetLemmon

On one of the beaches of Ft. Desoto Park one can see the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the distance. The picture on this page shows that. However, the sky makes it hard to see the bridge. Also, make your plans to visit Ft. Desoto in the morning. The park can become sweltering if the breeze is little or none.

Watchout that seagulls don't poop on your head

by ChetLemmon

The beaches of Treasure Island offer a relaxing and senic atmosphere for that early morning or late evening stroll. The soft sand and the lights of the hotels at dusk bring a feeling undescribable. Watch out for the occasional fisherman's pole and line...because it might be me. Sometimes it is just fun to stop and watch a fisherman for a few minutes, hoping that big fish will hit just as you watch. Dolphins frequent the shore line, just adding to the splendor of the beach.
