More about South Beach Condo Hotel
The Jewel In Treasure Island.
My wife and I have been to Treasure Island several times in the past; since 1991. This was the first time that we stayed at South Beach Condo Hotel and I can honestly say it was the cleanest, most comfortable and well decorated condo that we have ever stayed in. The staff were most hospitable, especially Karen. The condo has got very good amenities and the view from our balcony was amazing. Highly recommended!!!
Best place to stay on Treasure Island!
We just returned from a wonderful week at the South Beach Condo Hotel on Treasure Island. I have stayed at other places on Treasure Island, but this was by far the best! Karen and the other folks in the office and cleaning staff were very friendly and nice and always helpful with anything we needed. The condo was beautiful, bright, roomy and very clean. It had lovely furnishings, two TV's, free wi-fi connection and best of all, a washer and drier for those sandy, wet suits and towels. The kitchen had lovely granite countertops and was well equipped, including wine glasses. We loved that every condo had a large private balcony overlooking the gulf with incredible sunsets!! The grounds were well manicured and the lovely, heated pool was great when the gulf was too cold to swim. We are already planning our next trip!
Skip the hotel, and stay here!
We stayed at the South Beach Condo Hotel the week at the end of March, beginning of April 2008. My wife and I traveled with our four teenage children. Our stay was wonderful! I found the reservation and payment process to be pretty easy, using their website directly. In fact, if you search for the hotel using a web based reservation site, such as travelocity or orbitz, it may show there are no vacancies, when there actually are some. So seach their website (I can't post it in this review), and book through them.
The condo itself has two bedrooms, with two bathrooms, one off the master bedroom. The second room has two twin beds. The sofa in the living room makes into a bed as well. As usual, these sofa beds are pretty uncomfortable, so if you are taking more than four people I definitely suggest getting a blow up mattress or two, like we travel with.
The kitchen area was well stocked with all of the cooking supplies we needed, we just had to supply the groceries. Actually, if you are traveling on a budget, this saves a LOT of money over staying at hotels and eating out all the time. If you prefer to eat out, there are several resaurants within walking distance. They also have barbeque grills available at the condo, with charcoal and lighter fluid supplied, at no extra cost.
I also have to mention the convenience of the washer and dryer in the condo itself.
You won't be bored here, either, unless you want to be. The pool was not overly big, but the water was warm and clean, and we never found it overcrowded. The condo supplies some pool toys, also. There is a ping pong table, shuffleboard, and horshoe pit. You can also lounge around in the huge hammocks, as my teenagers spent much of their time. The beach is huge, almost too big, as it's a long walk to the water. But the nice result is, there was always plenty of room to set up and relax.
If you venture from the condo, there is a public beach just to the south, where there were a lot of activities when we were there, including a volleyball tournament/dance party my teenagers enjoyed. There is parasailing closeby, dolphin tours, and themed cruises. There is jetski, bicycle, scooter and boat rental within walking distance. You can also walk to gift shops, and my own personal favorite, a nice little ice cream stand.
We paid just under $270 a night, with tax and cleaning fees included. If you compare this to just about any hotel directly on the water, it is very reasonable, and cheaper than many. However, when you compare the convenience of the condo to a hotel stay, the condo always wins in my book. We can't wait to go back!!
The Class of Treasure Island
I am a third generation traveller to the area incl. St. Pete for 30+years, this is by far the best and cleanest place we have vacationed at. The proximity to the beach, the staff (especially Karen), shopping, cleanliness and overall rooms are second to none. Having travelled with my family of 4, we stayed in a two bedroom, 2 bath (incl. an ensuite) unit (#301, perfect height/views) overlooking the picturesque Gulf of Mexico. The room was unbelievably large, bright, clean, recently updated, and far exceeded our expectations.
The grounds are impeccably clean and well maintained. The pool area is perfect in size yet secluded from those walking the boardwalk.
Restaurants, shops and the historic John's Pass (a must see) are within walking distance. A car is not neccessary since a trolley runs along all Gulf areas and attractions.
No need to look any further--we have found our permanent vacation.
Wonderful gulf view
All condos have a balcony overlooking the beach and gulf. It was wonderful to sit there and watch the sunset. The condo was spacious and clean. I loved having a washer/dryer in the unit and did not mind having to wash our towels. The sofa couch could use a new mattress however, not that comfortable. Very quiet and loved walking out the back door onto the beach. A great getaway from winter in the northeast!! The children loved collecting shells and even went into the gulf which we felt was too cold, but they loved it. Never had time to go into the heated pool or use the hammocks. Will visit again and stay much longer to enjoy the unit.
We just got back from here! It was a girls getaway. Three from Pittsburgh and two from Orlando. The condo was very roomy and convenient. I was impressed how clean it was and loved the ceramic tile balcony! The beach is huge. Even at peak season, the beach would not be crowded. Front desk people were very helpful. Definitely would stay there again!
Great Hotel, Almost 5 Stars
We are concluding a 4 night stay and found that this hotel met most of our needs..."except"...the beds were like "concrete"! Other guests said the same thing. Too bad...such a nice hotel...with such lousy beds. Suggestion: If you can do it...bring an air mattress to put on top of the beds. The pullout couch was a joke!
OK...enough of the negatives. The hotel itself was extremely clean and well maintained. We were given a room on the 2nd floor (bottom floor) and we had only a partial view of the ocean (blocked by palm trees). Any floor above the 2nd floor would have been a lot better.
The staff was very accomodating and friendly. The beach was awesome and not crowded, but required a long walk to reach the water.
Our room (one bedroom suite) was VERY nice and clean. Well equipped and had everything we needed. There is a nice boardwalk in front of the hotel for those that want to take a morning or evening walk. We even witnessed two weddings on the beach on Sat eve. The sunsets are spectacular!
Our favorite restaurant was the Salt Rock Grill in Indian Shores (about 7 miles north of the hotel on Gulf Blvd. Awesome food and spectacular views of the bay. We also ate at Sloppy Joe's just south of the hotel...and enjoyed the meals and the beach music and laid back atmosphere. Their "sloppy Joes" are delicious!
All in all....we'll come back for another visit...but will bring an air mattress for sure!
We just got back a few days ago and had a great time. The condo was very clean and comfortable. The water was a little cold for this time of year, but our grandsons didn't mind. They bodysurfed for forever. The only complaint is that it is a long walk from the condo to the water. It was quite inconvenient at times. But all in all a very nice place to stay.
So much better than expected
When we found the condo online we were impressed by the pics, but we've been fooled by pics before. The price was right though, and reviews on Trip Advisor were favorable, so we booked it. We got a 2 bedroom and found that we received a better price by calling directly than by booking online.
Driving up, we were a little leery. Treasure Island is a pretty typical beach town and there looked like there were lots of seedy hotels in the area. Once we checked in though, we were thoroughly impressed by our room. I believe all of the units are beach view, and the patios are lovely. The unit was really clean and had tons of little amenities that we didn't expect. The pool was great, and the kids (age 5 and 3) wanted to spend most of their time in there. The hotel provided lots of floats and rafts for them to play with. There were hammocks and ping pong tables and very nice little bathrooms accessible from the pool.
The beach was beautiful, though a long walk to the water! Tons of seashells and very little seaweed. Cabanas were available, and I believe we paid $10 for 2 hours (though we had already been using it for about that long before they came to collect the fee).
We ate at Sloppy Joes twice, and it was decent. The service was good and friendly, and the food was ok but a bit pricey. We also ate take out from Ricky T's which was great.
I would HIGHLY recommend this place to people. I am fairly certain we will go back.
Wonderful place for young families
I am writing this review during our stay. We booked one week, and have room 301, a 2 bedroom condo. It is perfect for us as we have 2 small children and one baby, 3 months old. The view from our balcony is of the Gulf, and there is plenty of space inside the condo. We stocked up on groceries and with a full kitchen it is easy to prepare meals, or eat out if we choose. Everything for a comfortable stay is included. The only thing that would have made it a bit cleaner is a mop, as a one week stay means that just sweeping up isn't enough, and there is no housekeeping provided. As other reviews have mentioned, office hours are limited, and there are no other services, but so long as you are prepared for that, it seems to be ok. We arrived late, but all you have to do is call ahead during their office hours, and they will give you a code to the lock box so that you can access your room keys when you arrive. Then you just check in the next morning. Pool is good, beach is beautiful, and plenty of things to do - or do nothing at all if you want! I can see us visiting again if we manage to get to Florida in the future.
