Each year my family vacations at the Thunderbird Beach Resort. We have always had an enjoyable vacation. The heated pool and hot tub in the courtyard setting are pleasing, as is the outstanding meals from Karim's Bistro. The Tiki bar and live entertainment added to the pleasure of our visit. The people at the front desk were always helpful no matter what request was made. Our week at the Thunderbird has been the highlight of our summer.
Our family thouroughly enjoyed staying at the Thunderbird Beach Hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and we had a small kitchen that was great for making breakfast and lunch. The Tiki bar was fun and the heated pool and jacuzzi were so relaxing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach is beautiful white sand and the kids loved to dig and make sandcastles for hours. We will definitely come back again to the Thunderbird.
have been vacationing in florida for many years. have yet to NOT appreciate the quaintness and originality of the Thunderbird Resort in Treasure Island. it seems the world is turning faster than the beaches are. i especially appreciated the information of the greeting personnel at the front desk, and the accomodations of the housekeeping staff. the views from the rooms were breathtaking, and a true value of the sunsets is only available when you are there to witness them. pictures can be taken but you have to be there in person to really appreciate the sand, surf, and sun. the pristine white sand beaches which stretch forever lets ones serenity go on and on. i can only say to those who have not experienced this place...that you don't know what you are missing!!!
The Thunderbird is a great motel! What a terrific experience my family and I had last weekend! We needed a break from the monotony of our busy lives so we headed to the beautiful beaches of Treasure Island. My wife chose The Thunderbird because it is The Landmark of the Island. What a great choice. The beaches are wide, the sunsets are perfect, the rooms are comfortable, the staff is very accomodating, the restaurant served delicious food, and we loved every minute. My wife and I slipped down to the Tiki Bar after the kids fell asleep and enjoyed some adult time while listening to a fun band. It was romantic! WE LOVE THE THUNDERBIRD, and will be back again and again!!! P.S. If you go, walk over to Gigi's for the best pizza ever! (That comes from a guy from New York!)
We had a great time at the Thunderbird -- the staff was very helpful and courteous. Our rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The view is magnificent. What more could one ask for!
Nice family style hotel in the 1950s and 60s tradition. Very clean and well maintained. We had a pool/garden room that was really quite nice considering the price we paid. Got coupon for hotel in one of those free magazines on the interstate and feel that that saved us some $$, too.
We enjoyed 4 nights here in June 2004. A very nice ambiance for a family oriented motel. We had a nice view of the ocean from our second floor poolside unit. The kitchen efficiency was handy for snacks and breakfast, although we didn't use it for dinners as expected. The staff was very courteous and provided beach towels as requested. The rooms were clean and showed that they were recently remodeled. Our only problem was a sagging mattress on one queen bed. I suggested to the management that they replace these easily corrected operational issues and they told me that they were working on it. The location, landscaping, and pool couldn't be better. And they have a Tiki bar for those afternoon pina coladas.
My family stays here during the x-mas holidays, and have alway found it a fantastic place for both adults and children.
Housekeeping does an outstanding job. Sandy is the best.
The front desk clerks are very polite and helpful. I have seen guests come to check-in and be so rude and foul to these clerks, yet the clerks continue to do a great job. Maybe the guests need some training on how to act in public!
Will be be back again this year for a week stay.
My husband and I stayed here for 5 days for our first vacation, without our children, in 12 years. It was wonderful! The staff was very pleasant, the rooms, older style, but very clean and nice and the view was awesome. Would definitely recommend it to others.
I have had 3 opportunities to stay at The Thunderbird within the past year - the first time purely by accident, and the two following visits by choice.
Not only is the Thunderbird a classic landmark on Treasure Island, keeping the spirit of old time beach resort architecture alive..but it is also situated on the most stunning beach in the Tampa Bay area.
The rooms are basic but amply appointed and comfortable, and above all CLEAN. On each visit the housekeeping staff was attentive and went out of their way to provide any extras that were requested. (Beach towels, coffee, etc. )
The grounds are charming and well maintained, as is the huge swimming pool. The clientele, on all 3 occasions, was very freindly. Everyone from families that return year after year, to couples traveling from abroad. Lots of great conversations by the pool, and everyone's kids seemed to be having a great time too.
There is a great "tiki" bar on the edge of the beach, which draws a good crowd, as well as live music until the early evening. Vlad, the friendly bartender mixes a mean drink.
I thoroughly enjoyed all 3 visits to The Thunderbird, and everyone I spoke with was either a loyal returning fan, or a new devotee.
One more note of interest, the hotel restaurant, Karim's is surprizingly upscale for such a casual hotel. The food is a kind of nouveau Mediterranean cuisine... delicious and the staff was freindly and the service was great.
I would highly recommend The Thunderbird to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, clean, friendly hotel in the St. Petersburg area. The hotel complex opens directly onto the beach... the sunsets are spectacular there is plenty of parking and the hotel sits in the heart of the Treasure Island resort area.
