SUNFEST
by sunlovey
Every year, downtown West Palm Beach, along the Intracoastal Waterway becomes one big party with multiple stages featuring national music acts, an art show, two floating bars featuring Bacardi rum, tons of food, and thousands upon thousands of people dressed in casual summer attire.
If you're planning a trip this way, try and plan it during Sunfest.
Bands and performers like Lenny Kravitz, The B52's, John Mayer, No Doubt, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Goo Goo Dolls, Jimmy Buffet, The Black Crowes. etc. etc. have played for thousands under a stary sky @ past Sunfests.
Sunfest usually occurs sometime in late spring (April into May). Check out their site for specific dates each year.
Down home breakfasts in a diner type setting
by sunlovey about Mom's Kitchen
This place is definitely off the beaten path when it comes to touristy areas of the West Palm area....
Mom's kitchen is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner but we recommend it for breakfast.... This quaint little place is packed, so expect to wait a bit before you're seated. Just give the cashier your name first so you're on the wait list. There are benches out front of this little establishment and newspaper machines so relax while you wait.... Once inside there is a bar-type seating area with swiveling stools and there are regular tables. The clientele includes families, truckers, all sorts of people...
The breakfasts are CHEAP, good sized and classic- Expect to eat for under $6 unless you order the T-bone steak and eggs or something of that nature.
The atmosphere is in my opinion, so typical American. The decor is kitschy but cozy. The waitresses have worked there for as many as 23 years. I always have the mushroom and cheese omlette with hashbrowns and a biscuit.... mmmmmm!
The gambling cruises are just...

The gambling cruises are just wonderful. For only $25. ($20. for seniors) you can spend 5 hours out on the ocean on The Palm Beach Princess. You will get a free meal, which is great, lots of different choices, served buffet style. Calypso music takes you out on the ocean, and brings you back in. While out on the ocean, you can swim in their swimming pool, watch shows, gamble, play bingo, visit the lounges, etc. Lots to do, and the price is right.
I really enjoyed my time out on the ocean, and the ship is large and well-staffed. Has several lounges, and many things to do, plus a wonderful view of the Florida coastline, and while you are going out you can view the beautiful homes in Palm Beach.
Red Reef Park Beach & Picnic
by sunlovey
Red Reef Park consists of a beautiful beach, playground, shady picnic area and artificial reef (created from limestone).
It's not that crowded, the sand is nice, there are lifeguards, there are showers to shower off after your swim, there are clean bathrooms, a cool boardwalk along the ocean for beautiful ocean views.
We had a lovely picnic here and a beautiful walk down the beach. The water was a gorgeous shade of blue.
Admission to the park is $16 per carload on weekdays, $18 per carload on weekends. And it's worth it for such nice facilities and such a well-kept beach area.
See my Album on my West Palm Page for more pics of Red Reef Park.
Married in WEST PALM BEACH
by doolemma
"Return Visit"
We were married in West Palm Beach back in 1980. Back then WPB was a city of people that didn't have what the people of Palm Beach had. That's when WPB was a decaying city and really seedy looking. You had to cross the bridge to Palm Beach if you wanted to see how the people with money lived. Some of those people with the have, must have gobbled up a lot of WPB and rebuilt it. It looks like some of the havenots now have it. City Place is a prime example of what to do with decaying towns.
Our Maid of Honor and Bestman are living in WPB and that was the reason for our return. We had a wonderful two day visit with them, but we did very little sight-seeing. That was bad as it looks like WPB is a great city to spend some time in.
