Winter Haven Florida is the favorite stay for my Parents. My Dad has passed away but everytime My Mother goes to Florida she likes to stay in the same Motel that She has stayed in before. This is Cypress Gardens. I will add to this page in the next couple weeks. Thanks for visiting my page.
I had decided, since it was cheaper to have a car in Florida for a week than for four days, to revisit some of the places that we had gone to in 1967. Since I had just digitized the slides I took of Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, and Spook Hill and Bok Tower in Lake Wales, I had made arrangements to stay in Winter Haven in a Hampton Inn.
We got points for staying in the Hampton Inns. The first night we had dinner in Red Lobster.
I found that Cypress Gardens as we had known it was no more. Before it was a nice garden with women in hoopskirts decorating the landscape, and also there was a water skiing show.
Not now.
Now it is some kind of amusement park with a huge admission fee, and also large parking fees.
We drove around trying to get a glimpse of it from the residential areas next to it on the lake, but without going in. Did not have much success.
So we went over to Lake Wales to see Spook Hill
and the Bok Tower
where went through the visitor's center, rode the tram, saw a carillon concert, and had lunch, and watched the wildlife
Then we drove back to Winter Haven and had dinner at Applebees.
The next day we checked out and went to Fernandina Beach via Ocala.
