City in Southwest Georgia
"Riverfront Park"
Albany is trying to improve the quality of life in, and the reputation of, the downtown area. One of the things they did was to make Riverfront Park. They are also renovating several buildings in the area. Albany appears to be trying hard, and I wish them luck!
"RiverQuarium"
Albany has also developed a fairly impressive RiverQuariam to highlight the plants and animals native to the Flint River and the nearby (relatively) Gulf of Mexico. Entrance is $9.00 for an adult; $8.00 Senior; $6.50 for kids 4 to 12; and kids 3 and under are free. They also offer a ticket for $7.00 to the military but you have to ask. There are also special rates for large groups and for schools.
There is also a theatre across the sidewalk. You can buy a combo ticket allowing you access to both and save money.
Hours of operation are 9 AM yo 5 PM Monday through Friday; 10 AM to 6 PM Saturday; and 1 PM to 5 PM Sunday. The Riverquarium is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
"Turtles"
They also sponsored a contest where companies and individuals decorated turtles to be placed in the park and various parts of town. Here you see the winning entry.
