Albany...The Good Life City
Albany is a very diverse city that is rich in culture and history. There are many things to see and do in Albany. We are a very sports-oriented city, from hometown hero and Superbowl MVP Deion Branch to Celebrity Quail hunting. We are also proud of our arena football team the Wildcats, as well as our many high school and college championships.
Albany has undergone a major revitalization process downtown and along the mighty Flint river. These efforts have had a positive effect on the attitudes of Albanians as well as the local economy. The Riverwalk is a big park on the banks of the Flint. It includes a beautiful lit walkway, a childrens play area, a wonderful aquarium, and among other things an IMAX type theater that goes with the riverquarium. The Riverquarium is a large aquarium where you can witness creatures native to this region in their natural habitat, via glass walls under the water. It is a very nice learning experience for the whole family. The same river that devastated this area in 1994 and again in 1998, and caused millions of dollars in flood damage, is now celebrated for its strength and beauty
The Flint divides Albany into east and west Albany. The Northwest portion of Albany is consistently growing, due to industry, plenty of shopping and its many restaurants and nightclubs/bars. Those who live here often complain of being bored (probably like everyone's hometown), but there actually IS much to see and do....day or night!
