providence canyon state park
a very interesting side trip from albany is providence canyon state park. providence canyon is nicknamed georgia's "little grand canyon" and was formed by erosion as a result of poor farming practices in the 1800's. providence canyon is one of the natural wonders of the southeastern united states. providence canyon state park offers camping, hiking, and backpacking. see the attached web site for more information.
providence canyon is a hour drive north of albany. from downtown albany take US 82 west to GA 520 past dawson georgia, at weston georgia go west on CR 148 to lumpkin. providence canyon state park is seven miles west of lumpkin on GA 39C.
