Victims and Winners
Take a walk through the Olympic Park. It´s a nice memorial for the 1996 Olympic Games and medal winners. They are all listed on big stone plates. Also a memorial to remember the victims of the bomb attack during the games.

I will have a 5-hour layover at the Atlanta airport on my way to Germany. I wanted to get in some shopping for friends in Germany. Is there a Target store adjacent to or really close to the airport?
Thanks!
Hi Grace! Sorry for the delay as I have been negligent in watching the Georgia/Atlanta forums.
There is a target not terribly far by car from the airport. It is down Camp Creek parkway, but is about 4-5 miles from the airport. I'm not sure if there is a CTran or MARTA bus that goes there.
Probably a better option would be for you to take the MARTA train up to either 5 Points for some local tourist shopping or up to the Lindbergh station. From there, it is only a 1 block walk to a Target. The target there is actually on the lower level of the plaza and is not immediately visible. But if you were to cross Piedmont and go by the Hom Depot, there are stairs and an elevator in front of the Linens and Things that go down directly in front of the Target below.
Thanks so much, this information will help me make the most of my layover...thank you!!!
When are you coming through Atlanta?

The Georgia Dome is home to the Atlanta Falcons and to the Peach Bowl. The indoor dome seats more than 70,000 people and is located in downtown, within walking distance from Peachtree Street. There's also a MARTA stop nearby, which makes this an easy place to get to from just about anywhere in Atlanta.
Although it's getting harder and harder to do so openly, many Southerners (white Southerners, at least) aren't shy about their nostalgia for the Confederacy (the side that lost the Civil War). Georgia's Stone Mountain Park, 16 miles east of town, is a fairly brazen celebration of the rebellion and its leaders, whose 90ft (27m) high likenesses have been carved out of the side of a granite monolith. The park has several lakes, picnic areas, a restored plantation and a skylift to the top of the 825ft (247m) peak.
Virginia Highlands is a popular neighborhood filled with young but post-college twenty and thirty somethings. There are a bunch of great neighborhood bars in this area.
Here are a couple suggestions:
Highland Tap
Blind Willies

Dark Horse Tavern Jeans will work any bar or restaurant in the Highlands.
I had a wonderful trip with Delta in 2008 but 2009 was the opposite. Our incoming flight from Tucson was delayed though landed only 5 minutes late. It took a while longer to find a gate to park up but we legged it from Terminal A to terminal E arriving as they called "5 minutes before gate closes" only to find they had already boarded other passengers in our places. Now it seems it is a fact of life that flights are oversold but we weren't even late. To add insult to injury none of the desk staff would look us in the eye to explain what was happening - there was a general air of panic as I guess they know thay had screwed up. We then were told our hotel and meals would be fully paid for only to find later that this was not the case. As we were led fro the gate they were still boarding other passengers! The booking desk was pretty poor as well and had we not had someone in our party who knew how things should work we would not have been "given" an overnight pack - something that is obviously prepared for just our situation where we had only what we stood up in and our hand luggage to take us through the next 24 hours. Why couldnt they offer it without being asked?
To give credit to Delta, we complained on our return home and they were very prompt in giving us a credit voucher. but how sad it had to come to that.
