Proximity of Amtrak to MARTA

by ElroyJenkins

How close is the Atlanta Amtrak station to the nearest MARTA station? And if it is not close, would ya'll recommend bus or taxi to get between the two?

Re: Proximity of Amtrak to MARTA

If coming north on MARTA from the airport, exit at the Arts Center Station and take any bus northbound on Peachtree Street. The AMTRAK Station is on Peachtree Street - just north of the I-85 overpass. On a nice day, you could walk it from the Arts Center Station but, it's a bit of a hike and with bags... it might be a bit unpleasant.

Wouldn't recommend the bus necessarily if you have bags. Usually a taxi around that area, shouldn't be more than a few bucks. Agree Arts Center is the place to go. You could walk it, I've done worse, but on a hot day it would not be fun with bags.

Travel Tips for Atlanta

Visit Midtown...

by Arubasun.

Visit Midtown Atlanta.

Midtown Atlanta is currently undergoing big changes old buildings are being remodeled while some buildings and ex factory warehouses are being thorn down to make more mainly mid to upscale residential zones as well as adding more office towers. Midtown is slowly but surely becoming a night time entertainment mecca in Atlanta and perhaps this is the closest challenge for Buckhead Atlanta in terms of entertainment and attracting people with high income.

Midtown is also home of the largest gay community in the South East. It is home to the Margaret Mitchell House author of 'Gone with the wind'. Midtown is also home to the Piedmont Park where big concerts and other events take place especially during the summer. Piedmont Park is also great for jogging, biking or to have a day out with your family for a picnic or barbecue. Piedmont park is home to Atlanta's botanical gardens. In addition you can not miss the famous old Fox Theatre in Midtown Atlanta.

Midtown Atlanta is easily accessible by MARTA Rail which stops at Midtown Station N-4 on the North bound line heading to Doraville or North Springs. Other Midtown Stations include Arts Center Station N-5, North Avenue Station N-3 and Civic Center Station N-2.

State parks & lakes, High Falls = GA's Best Secret

by wildrumpus

Serenity abounds at High Falls lake and state park. Some people like to fish, others like to kayak, some like to putter around on their pontoons, and still others like to hike. Beautiful, peaceful, and tranquil. Check out my homepage.

Metro Atlanta...

by Arubasun.

Metro Atlanta suburbs.

Atlanta is known to be a city that combines nature and housing. Residential towers are barely there in Atlanta, as a matter of fact residential towers is only now gaining momentum in growing suburbs such as Buckhead and the Perimeter area. The booming housing real estate industry in Atlanta is likely to continu for the next 25 years as the city has become a popular place to settle. In Atlanta you will find more appartment complexes often with their own swimming pool, tennis courts, laundry service and gym.

So whenever you are in Atlanta take a ride through the suburbs and see the awesum apparment complexes beautifully settled amongst green trees and flowers. Atlanta sure has a good taste when it comes to housing design and construction.

Complimentary tastings. Open Daily. If you don't feel like driving out to Helen (which I don't, and wouldn't even if I knew where it was and had a car that worked), visit their wine tasting room at Underground Atlanta, 404-522-9463. There are all kinds of other vinyards in Helen, by the way, wherever the hell that is.

Atlanta Airport

by balfor

Many people seem to find the layout of the Atlanta airport confusing. Once you have seen the layout, however, you will see how simple the place is.

There is a main terminal with checkin counters on the north and south sides of the terminal. These are called, amazingly enough, the North and South terminal. They are in the same building, so just remember that it is just the way the airport has named it and not different physical structures. There are also gates for flights from the main terminal. These are called the T-Gates. There are 5 more separate buildings housing Concourse A-E for handling the capacity of the airport.

There is a train every few minutes that goes from the main terminal to terminal E. If you are arriving, however, make sure you stay on the train to the baggage claim area as it is quite a walk from the T-Gates (terminal gates) to baggage claim. When you go up the very large escalator to baggage claim, the south terminal will be to your left and the north to your right. If you need to rent a car, the rental agencies are directly in front of you at the top of the escalator.

(and it looks like the photo is messed up so I will work on it to get the correct picture online.)
