Best things about ATL
by mnhaus
I love Atlanta.....its a great city full of life and promise. It's full of history, evident in the number of museums and monuments around town. It's a place of development and progress. And it's a place of natural beauty, thriving even in the middle of the urban landscape.... Atlanta in the spring - when the dogwoods are in bloom, flowers are springing up all over the place, the sun is warm and green grass everywhere. There is no more beautiful American city than Atlanta during spring!!!
Workday Lunch on Broad Street
by TexasDave
Broad Street is near Five Points and is just 3 blocks long. Two of them are full of restaurants supplying food to local office workers and Georgia University students. In the warm weather, particularly on Fridays the street is closed to cars and gets filled with tables when a local radio station hosts live music.
Since there is a lot of competition prices remain reasonable.
Among the different cuisines offered are: Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Turkish, Pizza, Burritos, American sandwich shop, and several chains like Taco Bell, etc.
Did you ever see Fried Green...
by gardesque
Did you ever see Fried Green Tomatos with the Whistle Stop Café? The place exists. Along I-75 south of Atlanta, you'll find road signs to Juliette. It's just like the movie, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, since this is exactly where the movie was made. And yes, they have awesome fried green tomatos and the best Iced Tea in the South, served Southern Style. Aaaaaaaaahhhh...
various clubs in midtown
by seanc724 about Vision/Cosmo/Lava/1150/crescent room/twisted taco
ok this covers a lot:
first, i will start with vision. vision is a very large club by just about any standards. friday night is hip-hop night and saturday night is basic techno/house music with a sprinkling of hip-hop, depending on the mood of the dj. if you get there after say 11:15 or so you'll probably be in line for some time unless you know someone. save yourself the money it costs to get in and go to http://visionatlanta.com and print off a free entry coupon. you must enter the back door for that. good music, good looking people but no red bull. if you are a good looking woman, it is no problem to get into vip, if you are a man like me, you had better know someone.
1150:
same people that run vision on saturday night run 1150 on friday night. same crowd as vision, better music. more deep house. big named djs play there (e.g. oaky, sasha, baby ann, icey). no idea how much it costs or what time to get there. never had to pay or wait but i'd say the same rules apply as for vision.
cosmopolitan/lava:
smaller clubs (two for the price of one) but just as good if not better. not the same supermodel crowd though as vision and 1150. never had to pay or wait so i can't tell you about that.
crescent room:
soon to reopen under new ownership so i can't tell you yet.
twisted taco:
more of a bar than a club although they do have a dj. i have never had a bad time there. something about the place makes it a great place to hang out. no cover, no dresscode but it gets *packed*
front page news:
outside area for sitting. some type of band typically plays. more of just a bar. quite popular but i like twisted taco much better. vision, 1150: no jeans, no sneakers or as they say 'dress to impress'
cosmo/lava: jeans are allowed but i don't think sneakers are.
twisted taco & front page news: anything.
MARTA
by sulu88
I found the MARTA to be pretty convenient. It stops at almost all of the touristy areas. Riding is 1.75 per ride, but you can get a weekend pass which is a lot better deal at one of the ride stores. We rode only during the day and felt safe, but I don't know about night time.
