Conventioneering
by grandmaR
I've only been to Atlanta once recently, and that was for a convention. The convention was at what I think is the Georgia World Congress Center. They were building more of this at the time we were there. The whole front was a construction site. A map of the present center is at:
http://www.gwcc.com/pdf/gwccmap.pdf I took pictures of the construction because at the time I went to this convention I was inspecting sites for compliance with Safety and Health rules.
The Big Chicken
by cosmogypsy
Driving in Atlanta is not easy, especially because all the streets seemed to be named Peachtree. Therefore, when giving directions people tend to rely on landmarks to get around. In Marietta, this is one of those landmarks. It is the big chicken and it should not be missed!
It is located at:
1970 N. Cobb Parkway
Marietta, GA
Piedmont Park, Midtown
by flannery2
Piedmont Park is a well-used and loved park located in the heart of the Midtown neighborhood, starting at 10th and Piedmont and going several blocks north and east. The park is the site of several festivals and outdoor concerts throughout the year, such as the Dogwood Festival in April where artists from all over the country set up tents along the paths. You can bike, skate, take a leisurely stroll or have a cookout or picnic (and even pop a bottle of beer or wine while you're at it without worry--it's legal to drink in the park). Skateboarders perform tricks on the weekend at the 12th Street and Piedmont end of the park and musicians like to accompany them for the crowds that gather to watch.
European Candy and Souvenirs!
by tatyanap about European Deli International Foods
It's a wonderful little store that sells delicious Russian chocolate (the wrappers are beautiful, too), canned goods -- vegetables, fruit, fish, meat, etc., Russian videos, CDs, books.
You will easily find something tasty or beautiful, for yourself or as a gift to someone else.
All food is fresh. The lady who runs the store is very friendly and will be glad to help you make your selection -- there are lots of things to choose from, I am afraid (nice problem). I usually buy chocolate and cookies. However, I have tried many of the other items and was satisfied with all of them. Average supermarket prices.
Use Marta to get around
by tpangelinan
This is a good way to get around the Atlanta area, which is quite large! If there is a Marta Station in the area you are staying, which there is near most hotels then try this instead of renting a car because traffic here is unreal. You can even take Marta to a Braves or Falcons game to avoid the traffic. Check out the website below for all the details.
