Safety

by mgoldman

Anyone know how safe the following areas are?

--10th Street/W Peachtree St NW/Spring Street

Is it easy by foot to get around these areas, especially at night?

Is it MORE or LESS ideal to stay at Regency Suites on W Peachtree St NW/10th St as oppose to Marriott Suites on 14th Street? Why?

Thanks in advance for any input.

RE: Safety

by balfor

I will have to pay a bit more attention to it next time I pass through, but There shouldn't be any safety issues with either of those locations other than just dealing with crossing the street. The traffic can sometimes be kind of heavy as that is downtown. It might not be too bad if you're there on a weekend, though...

Sweetwater Creek State Park

by dustmon

This place has ruins from the Cival War era---a mill on a large Creek which has trails and interactive areas all along the banks of Sweetwater Creek. The Mill ruins are especially cool for photo buffs...bring your favorite model! Or bring the family----the trails are not hard and you can decide how far you want to go easily.....Fishing is also allowed with the proper liscences.
Basically I-20 West about 10 miles outside I-285. Exit Thornton Road turn left, cross the X-way and turn right at the sign.

decatur

by doug48

decatur is a historic town located about 10 miles east of downtown atlanta. decatur offers a number of civil war historic sites, an excellent selection of good restaurants and bars, and upscale shopping. decatur is home to agnes scott college and the old dekalb county history museum. decatur is a very nice place to visit in the metro atlanta area. see my decatur page for more information. from downtown atlanta take ponce deleon ave seven miles east to decatur.

Where Everyone Knows Your Name

by PVHS02 about Kirkwood Ace's Bar and Grille

Aces is a neighborhood bar (though not my neighborhood bar, sadly) that caters to local clientele. They have amazing drink specials and very colorful service, so if you're looking for something laid back and a strong drink for a good price - check it out.

Thursday nights are Team Trivia nights so don't expect speedy service if you're not prepared to stay the two hours for trivia.

Also, throughout the summer they're known to throw FREE Crawfish/Seafood boils about once a month (usually a Sunday afternoon). Casual - these are locals.

Passing through Hartsfield

by cvilla007

Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is the second busiest airport in the World. As most people know, this traffic is mostly passing through Atlanta, not originating from it. There's a saying, whether you go to heaven or hell, you must change planes in Atlanta first.

For me, the airport seems way too small for the amount of traffic it gets. Also the ticketing & screening areas are totally disorganized.

There isn't a great selection of hotels around the airport. I suggest taking MARTA, which has an airport station, into downtown (20 min) or Buckhead (45 min), as these places are more interesting to stay if you're 'laid over' for the night.
