weekend in atlanta

by william273

i'm coming to atlanta from charleston around the 20th of june for a few days and wondered if anyone's into getting together to play "tourist guide"? actually i used to live in atlanta back in the late 80s and early 90s but it has changed so much! i was in atlanta over the memorial day weekend for the first time since then and i couldn't believe it. ooooh the growing pains!
i'd like to maybe meet up with someone who knows about photography and can help/advise me on taking some pics. i know pretty much what i want to photograph but need help in finding good locations to shoot from and parking space help. hey, lunch and or dinner on me. william

You might also try posting this in the Meetings section, just to cover all bases.

Hey william! What things are you interested in shooting? My niece is down visiting right now, so can't do a lot of tour guiding, but I'm always up for meeting a fellow VT'er and perhaps I could help you out a bit online.

thanks for the reply. i'd like to get some shots from at least one skyway or whatever they're called, you know those sidewalks that connect building to building. some shots of downtown from the streets and stuff like that and any tips in general on taking pics as i'm not a pro with a camera but that's not a big deal though.
yea, it would be nice to meet up with some VTs if possible. thanks again, william

Hmmm.... I know that there are a few buildings with skyways, but most of those are going to be restricted access I believe. I know that there are a few of them about the 3rd or 4th floor connecting the Hyatt to the Marriott and Peachtree Place. You can get to most of the upper floors of the Mariott and take pictures from the windows on the ends of the building. I dont' know if I still have access to the roof of my building, but it's a 14 story building on the south side of Buckhead. And it's the tallest building around so you'd have decent views of downtown, midtown, buckhead and off in the distance some of the Cobb business district.... depending on how clear the day is. From the other building (there are two buildings, side by side) you should have a decent view of the top of Stone Mountain.

Now that I think about it, I should probably take my camera and tripod up there one day!

When email comes back up I'll give you my contact information.

WOW, the 14th floor, huh? must be a nice view. i had wondered about the skyways being restricted so guess that's out. maybe the 3rd and 4th floor window view would work.
i want to get some shots of the streets with alot of people around, EEEK! most photos i see of atlanta seem to show empty streets and i want to show that people actually live and work in atl. those shots must have been taken early on a sunday morning or something.
right, drop me a line when your email is working and we can go from there. thanks again, william

Atlanta Braves Souvenirs

by TexasDave

Aside from the baseball stadium itself the biggest sportswear/souvenir/memorabilia store is inside the CNN center. In addition to all kinds of clothing, sun visors, caps, and even dog collars with the Braves logo, they also have a limited number of wooden bats broken by the players for sale.

Anywhere in Buckhead!!!!

by traveltom about Anywhere in Buckhead!!!!

Different bar and club styles ranging from raves to fancy dress-up bars where the bouncer has discretion on whether or not you are dressed up enough. Don't mess with the bouncer, He's usually about 6'7', 265, pure muscle. find a bar that seems to suit you best, they're all there.

Hertz Shuttle to Terminals with Archie

by grayfo

Busy morning at work, raced to the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport. Two flights to catch and getting stressed. Returned hired car and caught the shuttle bus. Magic, didn’t stop laughing all the way to the North Terminal. Catch him on YouTube. This is a must.
