The windows on this East Bay depict scenes involving Joseph, the flight into Egypt, the birth of Jesus, and the death of Joseph. There are three great rose windows above which provide a kaleidoscipe of color.
There are 15 different styles of brickwork displayed on the exterior of this building.
augusta is a city located on the georgia/south carolina state line in north east georgia. in 1735 general james oglethorpe sent nobel jones to area to build a settlement to protect the georgia colony from french and spanish attack. augusta is the second oldest town in georgia and from 1785 to 1795 it was georgia's state capital. augusta was named after princess augusta, the daughter in law of king george II of england. ausgusta is home to the medical college of georgia. general w. t. sherman by passed augusta in his infamous march through georgia during the civil war thus saving many of augusta's historic buildings and homes. augusta's cotton based economy suffered after the civil war and did not completely recover until the out break of WWII. the area around augusta was the setting for erskine caldwell's depression era novel "tobacco road". in modern times augusta is best known as the site of the masters golf tournament. augusta is a beautiful and historic city and is well worth a visit when in northeast georgia. for golfers a trip to the masters is a "religious" pilgramage.
