ware's folly
this interesting federal style home was built in 1818 for augusta mayor nicholas ware. it was called ware's folly because it cost $40,000 to build at the time. $40,000 was a huge amount of money in 1818. as a comparison 50 years later the large church of the most holy trinity cost $42,000 to build. today ware's folly is home to the gertrude herbert insitute of art. see the attached website for current exibitions.
