carrollton is the county seat of carroll county georgia. carrollton is located at the intersection of US 27 and US27ALT about 13 miles south of I-20 in northwest georgia. carrollton was incorporated in 1829. carrollton was a small frontier town until 1874 when a rail road was built through carrollton. in the late 19th and early 20th century carrollton was a cotton market town. in the late 20th century the economy of carrollton was based on textile manufacturing. carrollton is home to the university of western georgia and has a vibrant downtown entertainment area. near carrollton is the john tanner state park and the mcintosh reserve. carrollton is a nice place to visit when traveling on I-20 between alabama and atlanta.
