Clayton has a number of antique and gift shops, as well as some breathtaking views of the mountains. Paul and I have made a few trips here over the last few years. It's a town with special memories for us.

clayton is located on US 441 in northeast georgia. clayton is the county seat of rabun county. the site of clayton is at the intersection of two cherokee native american trails. the famous naturalist william bartram explored the area around clayton in 1775. clayton was incorporated in 1823 and was named after u. s. congressman augustin s. clayton. clayton is a very good base to explore the north georgia mountains. the historic towns of dahlonega, helen, and toccoa are a short drive from clayton. also from clayton it is a short drive to franklin north carolina and clemson south carolina. near clayton are several state parks and clayton has a nice downtown historic district.
