the small town of cordele is located on US 280 a mile west of I-75 in south central georgia. cordele was founded in 1888 and is the county seat of crisp county georgia. cordele is named after cordelia hawkins the daughter of the president of the savannah, americus and montgomery railroad. today cordele is a agricultural market town and because of it's proximity to I-75 it has a number of motels and fast food restaurants. of interest to the tourist is it's small downtown historic district and nearby lake blackshear.
