Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park
The Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, as the name implies, was established to honor all those who have served their state or their nation in the military. The park is also called Georgia’s “most complete park” because has a very nice museum, a military equipment display, a Veterans Monument; 8700 acre Lake Blackshear; a fully equipped marina; good fishing; the Lake Blackshear Resort and Golf Club (with 78 rooms and 10 cottages); an 18 hole golf course; 77 campsites; a swimming beach; a 1 mile nature trail; and even a train that takes you to other attractions. Park hours are 7AM to 10PM. The Visitors Center/Museum is open 8AM to 5PM and should be you first stop.
The Veterans Museum houses a collection of items from all wars from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War, including uniforms, medals, and weapons from both sides of the wars, newspaper and magazine articles and other items. Admission to the museum is included in the admission price for the park.
Another big attraction to the park is the 8700 acre Lake Blackshear which offers a variety of water related recreation to include: boating, fishing, and swimming. It is also relaxing to just sit and look at the water and listen to the sounds of the lake.
They also have a nice 18 hole golf course.
