The best attraction is the tour of the Consolidated Gold Mine. For ten bucks you get a nice tour of the underground hard-rock mine, with an informative presentation of how and why the miners did their thing a century ago. You also get a pan of gold-bearing river sand to pan. I got about a buck's worth of gold from mine. The town itself is nicely restored, with the old courthouse serving as a gold museum.

"You can try your hand at gold hunting"
Since Dahlonega is home to the first gold rush in America, preceding the famous Fortyniners by 20 years. The state capital building dome in Atlanta is plated with gold from Dahlonega. Some of the gold was found by panning, and the majority of it was mined from below ground.
"Take a side trip to some natural beauty"
Not too far from Dahlonega, in Dawsonville, is Amicalola Falls. A nice hike here will help you work off the awesome food from the Smith House!
"And shop to your heart's content"
There are wonderful stores all around the town square, each filled with unique items that beg to be taken home. As you can see from the picture, more than a few things found their way home with us.
