Blue Heron Inn
Lovely bed and breakfast on the marshes
The hosts of the Blue Heron Inn, Jan and Bill Chamberlin, make guests feel as if they are old friends there on a visit. The large screened in porch overlooking the marshes provides a lovely gathering place for drinks and conversation. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. Breakfasts are outstanding. I would recommend this inn to those looking for a quiet, relaxing get-away.
Unique Quality: Incredible views of the beautiful marshes, pet friendly.
Directions: Not far off the road to the Sapelo Island Ferry.
Wonderful & Quiet B&B
My husband and I have stayed here several times and absolutely love this place. It is at the end of a very quiet street overlooking the marsh. The rooms are beautiful and the breakfasts are absolutely delicious. I love this place and highly recommend it to couples wanting a romantic get away, to families and bird watchers.
Unique Quality: Has great views of the marsh on the Georgia coast which changes colors with the seasons.
Directions: Off of Landing Road which is the road to the Sapelo Ferry which takes you over to Sapelo Island.
A Low Country Original
My husband and I plus other relatives have stayed at the Blue Heron Inn twice and plan to return as soon as we are able. The experience was steeped in low country hospitality as personified by our hosts, Jan and Bill, whose coastal home seems almost as if it rose like a natural force from its marshy surroundings. Accommodations and food are just as authentic as the place itself. The well-furnished rooms and baths display both plantation sensibilities and informal, easy charm. Likewise, the superior quality breakfasts (such as lime French toast) combine creativity with real southern character. Would we recommend the Blue Heron to others? Yes, without hesitation !
Unique Quality: The Blue Heron Inn is not a bed and breakfast cliche; it is unique. The stunning natural views from every angle are rife with birds in almost all seasons; the lazy, long screened porch beckons day and night; the hosts foster camaraderie or peace and solitude, whichever a guest desires. If your taste runs to fussy doilies and antimacassars , this may not be the place. The experience here is luxurious but
genuine, warm, unassuming,and real.
Directions: The Inn is within ten miles of Darien, or just ask anyone in town----they all know Jan and Bill!
